A lot of eucalypt forests naturally limit bushfires if they're allowed to mature. We worked out how they do it, and how we can tap into that to mitigate fire risk. 1/6 besjournals.onlinelibrary.wi…

Wow, 26 hollows have been counted in this tree. Security guy just kicked me off the site while I was inspecting. He said tree is dangerous. Might be a case of good old Aussie #arboraphobia à la Robin Boyd.
Amazing c. 400 year old River Red Gum at La Trobe Uni is subject of a removal application to ⁦@CityofDarebin⁩ . Staggering that it can be removed without notice. ⁦@EucalyptAus⁩

For every $ invested in capital works for private schools, public schools get between 27 and 50cents. FFS! How long must our kids put up with this blatant inequality? theguardian.com/education/20…

Wood heaters produce disproportionate levels of pollution. Consider nearly all households have cars, but only 5-10% have wood heaters but wood heaters emit the most pollution. @DEECA_Secretary @IngridStitt people need support to move to cleaner heating.
Vehicles are not the largest source of pm2.5 air pollution. They make up only 30% of pollution in Melb while the humble wood heater a whopping 51%. Pm2.5 is most health harming form of air pollution. Why is this not publicised @IngridStitt @tanya_plibersek

To be clear, these are not outlying findings; there is no empirical evidence to show that fuel load drives the rate of fire spread. Studies claiming this relationship are from models built on the disproved science. What about fire intensity then? 7/25

Solar is set to overtake generation capacity of all other power sources by 2027. In three years, it will overtake gas. In four years, it will push past coal. And it's creating jobs as it does it. We have the solutions. Implement them. #ActOnClimate #climate #energy #renewables

The first four days of this week were the hottest ever recorded. Smoke from wildfires is choking cities around the world. Global Sea Surface Temps - record high. Global Sea Ice - record low. Response from our 'leaders': maintain course. We must do more. #ActOnClimate

Meanwhile, I’m facing 100 years in prison. My marriage and career were destroyed. For the all the Govt’s admirable heat on this, everyone in the public knows the awful truth: PwC will not only never be charged, they won’t even miss next year’s Aspen trip. sbs.com.au/news/article/pwc-…

Today @VicGovAu announced that it will exit native forest logging in 2024, 6 years ahead of schedule. The @Biodivcouncil welcomes the end of the industry which was highly unsustainable both ecologically and economically.

It’s time for the Federal Government to be brave and end native forest logging nationally. Proud to unite with 14 of my crossbench colleagues on this issue. Labor should do the right thing for our children and grandchildren. theguardian.com/environment/…

It's going to be very difficult for the Fed govt's emissions reduction target & commitment to no new extinctions if native forest logging continues. Let's get on with getting these workers into new, secure jobs and protecting Nature. theguardian.com/environment/…

🍻 *Beer* is a bigger revenue raiser than the Petroleum Resources Rent Tax (the money we get from gas companies) 🤯 Spirits & Visas also make more while tobacco brings in 5 times as much revenue as the meagre PRRT. It's time we taxed gas companies properly. #Budget2023 #auspol
