Because you're not as up on movies as you think? I don't know what other kind of answer you think anyone would be able to provide.
OK, I'll bite. If John Cassavetes is so insanely influential and brilliant, why have I not heard about him until recently? I've been on a side-quest with classic and esoteric movies, mostly through the Criterion collection. I've watched dozens of Criterion closet picks from filmmakers and actors I admire. They pick Cassavetes films ALL THE TIME. Probably more than any other director except Scorsese. I haven't seen a single Cassavetes film. I don't think I've ever heard anyone talk about a Cassavetes film outside of those videos. I'm not a slouch on film, I've got a pretty wide spread on what I've seen & what I appreciate. How has Cassavetes slipped through that net so completely for so long?

it's like they say, never meet Pat McAfee
I saw Pat McAfee leaving the Gameday set after the show was over at Utah. Told him I’m a huge fan & asked for a picture. He took off his Ray-Bans, blew his illegal marijuana smoke in my face & said “I have too much money to deal with people like you”. My 3yo son was distraught.

If Vance had any spine at all, this speech would have turned into a version of Pacino's speech at the end of AND JUSTICE FOR ALL. That last line has a bit of Pacino's "She's not lying" vibe to it.
Vance: "Remember in 2022, when Russia invaded Ukraine and gas prices skyrocketed. They skyrocketed, by the way, far higher than they are today...They skyrocket every time some tin pot dictator decides to throw a tantrum."

Bill Ryan retweeted
there's already a lengthy documentary about that. there's an 8 hour dramatized television series about that. there was a whole trial about that. I don't think Nathan Fielder was approaching this as something that needs settling.
That first sentence... Fielder promised no such thing.

I was looking up that AI lady who doesn't know anything about her kid, and the search bar tried to autofill this. This is hardly a search that I would object to, but is there something trending about her and THE WRESTLER that I don't know about?

who gives a shit
I hate Letterboxd. I will always hate Letterboxd. It's a toxic, performative place, full of tryhards and idiots. Your reviews aren't good. They aren't funny or wise. You are not erudite enough to articulate your written thoughts on a movie in a way that adds ANY public value.

“Prine-tober” at Evil Speakers concludes today with a discussion of 1991’s THE MISSING YEARS, a big comeback w/ guest stars (like Bruce Springsteen & Tom Petty) & some of John’s most likable tunes, including the all-time classic “Jesus The Missing Years.” stevenhyden.substack.com/p/c…

If this is a problem with YOU CAN SEE EVERYTHING then it's a problem with every documentary that takes individual people as their subject.
Spoiler: Loved You Can See Everything. But I'd like to see discussion, as I've been having privately with friends, about all the bros (Fielder, Oppenheim, A24) balking at Elizabeth Holmes potentially profiting from her story, meanwhile Fielder, another subject of the doc, does.
