Yep. It allows you to debug the steps instead of prematurely writing off a strategy as nonviable

Story of my life.
People who moved abroad alone in their 20s, handled all docs, bank account, visa, tax, jobs, accomadation, and culture difference These people fear nothing anymore

figma.com/community/file/144…

Got it. So what's your fix here?

If you look at the differences and timeline of PC adoption, internet access and software usage it's really interesting. Japan historically had lower PC adoption and was more consumption based, starting on mobile devices while in the US creation based software was more accessible

Ironically that came full circle when I eventually got to help localize Figma into Japanese and Korean. I think leanring Japanese has helped me become a better designer by reducing some of my design biases and gaining an understanding of problems monolinguals might miss.
A lot of people take for granted how easy it is to use software in Latin script languages. CJK is still causes a lot of challenges. When I first started using Figma you couldn't even type japanese characters so I sent a request to fox that.

Curious what your specific reference point was.

All of the above + language are just an extension of user context. Context influences the effectiveness of design patterns, so without cultural or language fluency most of the conversations are simply about aesthetic preferences. Which is fine, but that just a subset of design.

Probably does. But what's the reference point modern design here, as a Chinese native experience?

What is the definition of good design? Is it what aligns to your expectations of what you think is good design? Or is it design that is effective at what it does? I can say from experience effective design is often different from what most English speakers think it is.
WeChat is stuck in like…2018, from a UI and UX point of view. No competitive pressure to make it good, and everyone just deals with it.

For every era of technology, design has been there to shape it into something humans can use. When technology evolves the role stays consistent but our definition of design shifts. figma.com/blog/why-design-is…
