whenever someone brings up using AI for creative work, I think about this what we create also creates us

You can tell public reception to AI is great by the fact that all the major companies are hiding/removing the ability to turn it off.

I’m a competent adult. Why do I need an “AI agent” to check into a flight for me? I’m literate. Why do I need an “AI agent” to read and write emails for me? Also, I don’t get so many emails that I can’t answer them myself. The reason “no one uses AI” is that there’s no serious utility here for the vast majority of people.
This is my thesis: no one uses AI. I repeat, absolutely no one. We live in a bubble. Even among my friends who pay for it, when I ask them to open ChatGPT and show me their queries, it’s the same handful of basic things. Most don’t even know they can upload a photo and ask questions about it. Connecting Gmail so an agent can read and send emails blows their minds. An agent opening a browser and checking them into a flight? They’ve never even heard of it. The massive challenge right now is adoption, and then getting people who already signed up to actually use what they’re paying for. Most have absolutely zero clue what’s possible. Imagine the compute shortage when everyone starts using AI like the top 1% of users do today.

The part I hate most about AI is that I now approach art with suspicion instead of excitement and wonder

AI watermarks are obviously an undeniable social good and anyone screeching about them is admitting they’re using AI for deception. If you’re so proud of using AI, you should have no problem crediting your invisible co-author

You don’t actually have to be good at your hobbies. You’re allowed to just enjoy them and suck at them.

I need people to understand, AI can't read, it can't understand your question. It uses pattern recognition. If you're using it for research, its not research, its selective and biased results based on pattern matching, if there's no pattern it fills the blanks with false info.

Is Google dumb? Or is it evil? Genuine question. The ability to fake satellite imagery with simple prompts was rolled out yesterday to all users & the potential harm is so blindingly obvious, it’s almost as if they’re profit-seeking chaos edgelords who simply don’t give a shit
Tonight I typed just one sentence into Google Earth and put refugees near the Mexican border. Then I planted a nuclear plant in Iran. What on earth is Google doing? Check my latest post here: digitaldigging.org/p/how-to-…

The thing that really kills me about people using AI (aside from all the obviously terrible things) is that people really expect you to applaud their “work” as if it was done by them. I would rather a clip art windows xp 1997 Microsoft flyer than the same BS everyone is doing now

the problem with AI isn't just that it's ugly and lazy, it's indicative of a culture uncaring about everything. you have to care about something. you have to care about what you're putting out in the world. you have to make effort somewhere so people can perceive it.

To all companies: Just remove it all, nobody wants your AI garbage forced into everything.
Meta is removing Instagram’s latest AI feature following a negative response from users: “Earlier this week, we announced that one way for people to generate images in Meta AI is by @-mentioning public Instagram accounts that they want to reference. Our intent was to provide a useful creative tool and to give people control over whether their public content could be referenced in this way. We've heard the feedback that this feature missed the mark, so it's no longer available.”

As someone who always used to be excited for new tech, I am not interested anymore. Everything has gotten so greedy, addictive, expensive and exclusive. They don't solve problems, they create them, and then try to sell you the solution. We're in literal technology hell.
