Voters had their say in my old home state in Northern Germany. Social Democrats won, Greens third. They will form a coalition because they share many goals #ProportionalRepresentation for the win. What's happening in BC right now doesn't make sense #bcpoli ft.com/content/823cf853-421c…

I used to think PR would be a nightmare, but the current system is a nightmare that ignores huge swaths of voters and regions. I'm ready for a change.
This is, I think, the strongest argument for PR. Elections would be contestable in every part of the country. Parties would have an incentive to make appeals to voters everywhere, rather than focusing on the relatively few battleground ridings they think they can win.

It's disappointing to see an Electoral Reform Citizens' Assembly has not been included in today's @NDP @liberal_party deal. However, we hope this new era of collaboration will allow for the important work being done on this file by several current MPs to bear fruit.

Happy #InternationalWomensDay! Here's a shout-out to all the #ProportionalRepresentation countries whose system has elected a woman leader. Including Finland, whose governing coalition consists of 5 parties all led by women in their 30s. cnn.com/2022/03/08/opinions/…

"It’s not difficult to see how bargaining between smaller, more ideologically defined parties might break the logjam on issues—climate change, civil liberties, and foreign policy—where cross-party coalitions are suppressed or frustrated by zero-sum, duopolistic politics."

"Tory MP @MichelleRempel said the @BlocQuebecois motion had raised new questions about Canada’s electoral system and in a column suggested the @CPC_HQ should take a fresh look at reforming the electoral system, including a form of #ProportionalRepresentation."
The federal government is preparing to take action to ensure that Quebec does not lose a seat when Canada’s electoral map is redrawn. trib.al/LiqzVC2
"Many of Canada’s problems stem from a winner-take-all style of politics that allows governments in Ottawa to impose measures abhorred by large areas of the country." -@StephenHarper (1997) 1/2
"[Rempel Garner] said the Conservatives, despite winning the popular vote in the last two elections, had not made gains under the first-past-the-post system. She said the Conservatives should not have to rely on splits in the left-of-centre vote to win." theglobeandmail.com/politics…

"Modernizing Canadian politics would not only be good for conservatism, it might be the key to Canada’s survival as a nation." All voices must be heard. #ProportionalRepresentation makes that happen. 2/2 macleans.ca/politics/ottawa/…

"Instead of politically knifing one another over positions on conversion therapy and abortion, maybe several parties that broadly represent social conservatism, libertarianism, moderate progressive conservatism, and regional interests would be healthier...."
"Under a different electoral system, a constellation of parties representing different views on the right-of-centre spectrum might allow us to work in concert on the issues that we broadly agree upon." We couldn't agree more @MichelleRempel! Let's work together & make it happen!

Smart & thoughtful guest column from @MichelleRempel. Conservatives shouldn’t be reflexively against proportional representation. It may well end up beieng better for both conservatives & the West.
