The lamps in my house. Can you collect lamps? I think yes. Is it worth it? Probably not. But lamps are also like sculptures. They create a nice and cozy environment, and some are very functional. Check out my post about all the different lamps I have.

Doing some k8s stuff again, and I'm pretty excited to use some of the things I built at the company. Using plain k8s for sandboxing doesn't really work, though, so there are a lot of nuances there. But one thing is for sure: I wish there were a standard for sandbox scheduling. Back in the day we had Nomad, Mesos, Swarm, and k8s, and k8s won the race. But for agents, k8s is slow, and it feels like using a hammer for everything.
I know every sandbox/VM company is building its own scheduler, its own filesystem layer to abstract sandbox storage, and so on. What if we had something like k8s, but for sandboxes? That would be cool. But OSS is also kinda dead, so it's easier and cheaper to build your own.
Finally added some Philips Hue Lily outdoor spotlights to the front garden. Four in total. This is what I see when I look outside from my office. I still need to tidy up the cabling (currently 3D printing some pegs), but I love how it turned out especially with the autumn colors.
I wish the display were 120Hz, but other than that it's really nice. I have an 11" iPad Pro, but with the keyboard it feels heavy and sometimes it doesn't make sense to bring it along with my MacBook on long trips. So I've been wanting something smaller and it looks like this might make sense to get?
Does anyone have one, or has anyone switched from an 11" or 13" iPad to a iPad Mini?
(of course I also want to play STS2 on this once it's out :p)
Looks like this is going to be a week of Apple press releases, starting today with the new OLED iPad Mini
- 8.5" OLED display
- A20 Pro chip
- "Acoustic display" instead of speaker grilles
- IP67 rating
- N1 and C2 chips
- Starting at $699 (+$200 from last gen)
My take: WAY better screen, WAY better chip, so a very welcome refresh. Very curious to try this audio system. but also I can't find any mention of 120Hz or ProMotion on the website, so.... 60Hz?

That’s the reason my TV never goes to the internet. It’s in a separate VLAN and it’s completely cut out of the internet. This is like this for years. I enable it occasionally to upgrade the FW because there were glitches with VRR (I have a Sony Bravia).
And of course I use an Apple TV box and everyone in the house uses that.
I've finished about two A5 notebooks since I started journaling a few years ago. The notebook I use is the Midori MD. I write every time I want to get something off my mind. It's like X for me, but completely private, just for my own thoughts.
I write about the things that make me proud, my two kids and how much I love them, the journey that got me here, my family, my wife (and her jokes), how I got my current job, and my relationships with my friends and the people I love. Sometimes it's just a photo of a watch I recently bought and why I chose it. Sometimes I add a photo of something that inspired me. Some of the pages are just scribbles and doodles.
Writing does wonders for me. It's a place to be "you." It's like water flowing. o blockers, just you, your pen, and your thoughts. Definitely start writing. It's a good habit to have.
Good old times. I joined DigitalOcean in 2015, but this post is fascinating to read. Learnt a few things I wasn't even aware of.
DigitalOcean's 2014 pitch was an SSD VM for the price of a Subway footlong. It sold so well we nearly choked on our own disk images. Wrote up how we got out of it:

Finally had a chance to try out this watch at my local AD. It’s beautiful and wears perfectly. I will probably hunt one once the prices go down in the second-hand market in a few years.
I wrote more about this watch 3 years ago on my website: arslan.io/2023/11/10/braun-a…
This is a good idea. For example I have a skill that reviews some of our Kubernetes code for best practices/correctness based on my blog post planetscale.com/blog/the-fee…
This is how I feel writing Rust lately.

Really loving this book. Glad I picked it up. It’s hilarious. You’re reading everything from an android’s point of view. But the Android is malformed, so it acts on its own. But it likes to be left alone all the time and likes to watch movies. The thought process is just pure fun. Kind of like K-2SO from Star Wars Andor.

Wow nice. Congrats @mdlayher @miller_joe and the team. As someone that had to use Azure at some point, I can assure this wasn't an easy task :)
