I have 3 important things to add: 1. Few-shot examples Negative examples help, but positive ones are much stronger. Models pattern-match extremely well. Adding 1–2 concrete, high-quality examples of the exact output you want usually does better than more instructions. 2. Force it to show what assumptions it has first Add something like: “Before answering, list any assumptions you’re making or information that’s missing. If anything critical is unclear, ask me instead of guessing.” This single line prevents a huge amount of confident-but-wrong output. 3. Explicit process request Even with better models, adding “First outline your approach in 3–5 steps, then execute” still improves consistency on non-trivial tasks (especially writing, analysis, and strategy work).
