New week, new top tier of this week's simulated BCS. Miami, Ohio State and BYU break away while last week’s top two slide to Nos. 4 and 5 after a chaotic week:

For the 1st time in the history of the AP Poll, 5 of the Top 8 teams in the country will lose on the same day.

In College Football, the difference between 1 and 24 is ~20 points.
In the NFL the difference between 1 and 32 is ~15 points.
There is more variability in the CFB game. But variability is why there should be a smaller playoff.
"Expanding the playoffs to 24 teams means that now 17% of college football teams will make the playoffs. In the NFL it's 44% and yet it's never killed our interest in the regular season."
@colincowherd doesn't buy that a 24-team playoff will kill college football

- No one will win a conference championship game
- No one will win a Bowl game with a shred of significance or history
- 1 team will survive a 16 or 17-game marathon and get a trophy
- Fans will be priced out by rosters/coach costs and almost no one will feel like a winner
The 24-team College Football Playoff likely eliminates conference championships, @PeteNakos reports❌

Blowing up the regular season, against the wishes of almost all fans, just to assuage the egos of a handful of donors placate coaches worried about losing their 8-million-dollar jobs. What a waste.

Week 1 in the Boot: (Underdogs)
Duke will be improved on last year’s team and Tulane takes a step back this year. If Tulane’s run game maintains control, there could be a chance.
ULM will get to watch new RB, Chaney, against a strong Miss St team. But it will be hard to slow MSU

Sources: Tulane fifth-year senior Zeon Chriss-Gremillion will start at quarterback for the Green Wave, making his debut at Duke on Sept. 5. He’s on his third school making starts at quarterback, as he was at Houston in 2024 and 2025 and Louisiana the prior two years.

Tulane has a big QB battle going on.
The Cajuns have the electric Lunch Winfield.
But I’ve picked Sam Leavitt and Blake Baker as the most impactful QBs in Louisiana this year.

There’s a lot of pressure of Leavitt this season to get LSU’s offense to move.
Leavitt is the first quarterback I have listed on my Louisiana Pre-Season Impact players.
