It could happen, not only because Netanyahu is pushing for it. Where is the UN SG now? Are he aware that preventing these scenarios and de-escalation are the core of his job?
Under pressure from Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the Trump administration may be within days of launching a nuclear strike on Iran. The target would be Pickax Mountain in central Iran, where Israeli intelligence claims the Iranian government has restarted its nuclear enrichment program. No conventional weapon in the American arsenal can penetrate 300 feet of solid granite to destroy the tunnels where enrichment is supposedly taking place. The only military option is a nuclear strike. Netanyahu has been pushing hard for one. “Bibi calls Trump about it every day,” says an informed observer. Netanyahu is cornered and desperate. After last week’s election results, he can’t form a government unless Trump intervenes directly in Israeli politics and brokers a deal with other parties that gives Netanyahu 61 seats in the Knesset. Otherwise, he is out as prime minister and on his way to ignominy, investigations and possibly jail. Netanyahu must stay close to Trump. He needs this war. To that end, he’s applied maximum pressure to his closest allies in the administration, including Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth and CENTCOM commander Brad Cooper. Both oppose a negotiated settlement to the war they’ve so grievously mismanaged; both are pushing to restart major combat operations. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and CIA director John Ratcliffe are also following Netanyahu’s lead, as are leaders of the Democratic Party. In a recent meeting on the subject, former president Barack Obama said he opposes the current Iran peace deal being drafted in Doha. The rest of America’s longtime allies in the Middle East are terrified by the prospect of more war. On September 27th, Netanyahu flew secretly to Abu Dhabi to enlist the UAE in his lobbying effort for a final attack on Iran. The Emiratis refused. After eight months of conflict, Gulf economies are teetering. So are global energy and fertilizer markets. They won’t recover soon. Globally, there are a total of about 850 supertankers used to transport oil from producers to the rest of the world. In October alone, 11 of them were badly damaged in Hormuz. At this pace, a global depression is imminent. A nuclear strike would radically accelerate the destruction. Fallout from a ground explosion at Pickax Mountain would contaminate the Persian Gulf, poisoning the water supply for 100 million people. And those are just some of the immediate consequences for the region. The rest of the world is every bit as exposed. No country other than the United States has ever used a nuclear weapon in war. Some would like to. An American nuclear attack on Iran would set a new precedent. The Russians have already told at least two other governments that an American nuclear strike on Iran would free them to use nuclear weapons against Ukraine. Pakistan and India would be tempted to do the same against each other, as would North Korea against Seoul. After the first nuclear strike, World War Three is inevitable. That war would be short and final. We’ve been sleepwalking toward this moment for months. Since February, the administration has quietly rewritten America’s nuclear doctrine to make first use of so-called “battlefield nukes” easier and therefore more likely. No one in Washington in either party seems bothered by this. Now we’re on the brink of it. Close observers say Trump is likely to decide by next weekend whether or not to use nuclear weapons. That would be November 7, six days from now. To his credit, he’s hesitating. At the moment, Trump is listening to his vice president, JD Vance, and to his envoy and friend Steve Witkoff, both of whom argue a deal with Iran can be made. They’re right, though it won’t be simple. The Iranians are famously frustrating to negotiate with under any circumstances, and elements of that government have become more radical since Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and his family were killed in February. After decades of isolation, even relatively moderate Iranian leaders seem confused by how decisions are made in the West. (There is a widespread belief in Tehran, for example, that the United States government controls Israel.) But overall, people who have spoken to decision-makers in Iran say there is consensus there that more war is bad for everyone and a deal is worth making. One group that hasn’t been consulted so far is the global population — the hundreds of millions of people who will be killed along with their children if Trump is pushed by Netanyahu into launching a nuclear strike next week. Now would be the time for them to speak up.

#IranWar‌

🚨🇮🇱 WATCH: Arab Israelis are riding camels, horses, and donkeys to their local polling stations in the Negev. The turnout today has been INSANE, and Netanyahu has been particularly outspoken about how concerned he is with high Arab voter turnout. On this Israeli election day, I’d recommend reading this extraordinary @haaretzcom interview with billionaire Ronald Lauder, president of the World Jewish Congress and once one of Benjamin Netanyahu’s closest confidants. One of Lauder’s most striking conclusions: “I realized at the end of the day that Israel really didn't want peace, but they wanted dominance.” This is coming from someone who helped launch Netanyahu’s political career, introduced him to powerful figures in American politics and media, and secretly negotiated with Hafez al-Assad and Rafik Hariri on his behalf in the late 1990s. In one of the interview’s biggest revelations, Lauder says Netanyahu agreed to a comprehensive peace deal with Syria and Lebanon, including withdrawal from the Golan Heights, but ultimately refused to sign it for political reasons. “He chose politics over peace. He put his political future before the deal.” Now 82, Lauder describes his profound disillusionment with Israel’s direction. After decades of supporting Israeli and Jewish institutions, he has sold his Tel Aviv apartment, given away his Be’er Sheva property, and says he has no intention of returning to Israel. He warns that Netanyahu’s dependence on figures like Ben-Gvir and Smotrich is damaging Israel, alienating diaspora Jews and eroding support in Washington. The interview is also full of fascinating details about Lauder’s role in Netanyahu’s political rise. The two became close friends in the 1980s, when Netanyahu was Israel’s ambassador to the UN, speaking almost daily at times. Lauder says he introduced Netanyahu to speech coach Lilyan Wilder to improve his public speaking and, crucially, to Republican strategist Arthur Finkelstein, who would become instrumental in Netanyahu’s electoral success. When Netanyahu left New York to pursue a political career in Israel, Lauder threw him a farewell party attended by some of the most influential figures in American media and politics, including Rupert Murdoch and the head of the New York Times. Lauder recalls opening doors for Netanyahu and helping him cultivate the relationships that would underpin his rise to power. What makes this interview so revealing is that Lauder is no longtime critic of Israel. He had been a committed Zionist, a Republican power broker, and a man who spent decades financing Jewish institutions, cultivating relationships with Arab leaders, and pursuing diplomatic openings on Israel’s behalf. A fascinating read 👇 haaretz.com/israel-news/elec…

🚨🇮🇱 Tuesday may be the most consequential election in Israel's history, and the 100,000 people in Hostages Square tonight know why: the world has stopped giving Israel the benefit of the doubt The rally was about an inquiry into Oct. 7 that Netanyahu has blocked for three years, and the voices were bereaved fathers and freed hostages. But the subtext in the square was bigger than one commission. It was the sense, said plainly by a first-time voter to AFP, that Israel has to change how the world sees it, and that Tuesday is the last clean chance to do that from the inside. Years of war in Gaza, Lebanon and now Iran have done something no enemy managed: they turned ordinary public opinion in Israel's closest ally against it. AIPAC quit endorsing candidates this week because its name costs votes. A Democrat leading the Michigan Senate race calls Israel a friend who takes your money and starts your fights, and his numbers WENT UP. The prime minister is campaigning on finishing Iran "together" with a president at 31% whose own voters are done with the war. Fair or not, that bill doesn't stop at Israel's border. And as unfair as it is... Jews in Paris, London and on American campuses get judged for decisions made in Jerusalem that they had no part in, and they’re the ones who absorb the hostility when Israel’s conduct goes wrong. The world's message has been delivered loudly enough: change how you fight in Gaza, change how you treat Lebanon, change the assumption that Washington will always write the check. A Netanyahu win promises the “job to finish” with Iran and another year of the same verdict from the same crowds abroad, and that verdict falls on Jews who never cast a ballot in Israel. Tuesday is the day Israelis decide what the rest of the Jewish world has to answer for next. Source: Times of Israel / AFP

On @Reuters article below 👇, don’t spend too much time wondering why the cost of living of Lebanese people continues to deteriorate, and will continue to do so in the foreseeable future as risk of war heightens further. There is one main reason behind the double digit $ inflation that is sweeping through people’s lives and livelihood: Inflation in #Lebanon is the cost of delayed restructuring 👇(see article below) . Everything else is a corollary to it. substack.com/@thealiamoub/no… When the central bank is insolvent and the treasury is in default, the President, PM, government and the mighty Lord, can’t do much about inflation at > 17%, unless they restore the capacity of the State to use monetary and fiscal policy to protect society. Time to tell the Lebanese the truth & move ahead with an equitable restructuring that ensures accountability and builds a solid base for recovery. In the new Middle East, no one cares about bailing out Lebanon’s rotten state and those who capture it; not in war times nor in peace times.
