“Engineer” isn’t just a job title; it’s a mindset What it actually means: Problem framing → anyone can solve easy problems; engineers define the hard ones correctly. Constraints first → budgets, materials, time, physics. You don’t start with freedom, you start with limits. Trade-offs → there’s no perfect design. Every choice costs something else. Engineering is deciding which pain you can live with. Abstractions → reality is too messy. Engineers simplify the system just enough to work, without lying to themselves. Iteration → the first design is always wrong. Engineering is improving the wrong design until it’s less wrong. An engineer isn’t the person who knows everything. It’s the person who can build something real out of incomplete knowledge, under constraints, with failure breathing down their neck. That’s why engineering is a mindset, not a degree.
