As the dust begins to settle following the unprecedented National Synodal Assembly, Gerry O’Hanlon SJ is clear that what took place in Gormanston will come to be seen as “a milestone” in the renewal of the Irish Church. Read more in @The_Tablet @synodalpathway @CatholicBishops

Dear @ZelenskyyUa, I am heartbroken at the news of the senseless and indiscriminate attack that Russia has carried out in Dnipro.
My sincere condolences to the victims’ families and loved ones, and to the people of Ukraine.
Together with our allies, we must do everything in our power to mount pressure on the aggressor.
This is why strengthening our support for Ukraine will be high on my agenda in Montréal.
And tomorrow, @EU_Commission will put forward a proposal to allocate the remaining €45 billion of the Ukraine Support Loan for 2027 defence needs and budget support.

It is deeply frustrating that the NI executive will not be represented at the important meeting on economic growth with the PM tomorrow. I understand feelings are running high but it must be in the interests of the people of Northern Ireland that everyone gets round the table.

Looking forward to Sinn Féins John Brady calling Sinn Féins Aengus Ó Snodaigh to the public accounts committee to give the trustees side of the story. The trustees must be shocked that something like this could have happened.
“Based on the information currently available, it appears that some of this conduct [in the charity] is unlawful and/or was carried out for the benefit of an organisation, membership of which is unlawful,” the regulator said in legal documents.

Surely he must face the press soon. Claire Byrne? David McCullagh? This needs a 20 minute detailed chat.
The High Court has been told that the Sinn Fein TD Aengus Ó Snodaigh in his capacity as chairperson of the charity Liberty Recycling signed off on the establishment of two other related entities which were not charities

Patrick Bresnihan likes the UN but not the EU. In an earlier tweet he thinks that empowering the UN GA-193 members would make it effective. I would expect a geographer to have a better grasp of the politics of scale.
My statement is correct. Both the UN & EU are made up of their member States. The UN is a global grouping, the EU a regional one.
Sadly, the UN, which started in a blaze of glory in the 1940s, has become deeply flawed. That’s because it is controlled by the Security Council & its 5 permanent members. It has no representation from Africa or Latin America or the Middle East. India is not a member.
The UN has been completely ineffective on wars in Ukraine & the Gulf. It is unable to extend the mandate of UNIFIL. You may be ok with that inactivity but I am not.
We are EU members & take a full part in its decisions. The EU needs to play a fuller role in promoting peace & political progress in Palestine.
I don’t know if it can succeed in filling the gap left by UNIFIL but I am prepared to give it a chance. I trust ourselves as Europeans more than I trust Russia, China or the USA.
You are of course entitled to your own preferences.

The UK government has announced that the National Living Wage (ie legal minimum wage for workers aged 21+) will rise to £13.21 from April or €15.78 per hour. This applies to Northern Ireland as well. Ireland (the South) generally makes up for a higher cost of living with higher salaries. Not so for the lowest paid ☹️

A privilege to launch Noel Dorr’s new book, 'Irish or British or Both'.
This valuable work serves as a reminder that progress on this island has only ever been achieved, and is only ever likely to be achieved, through sustained engagement, respect and an openness to change.
