In a cell-centered finite-volume scheme, we need a surface normal at a face center to implement a tangency boundary condition, but the face center is not exactly at a true curved surface. This can cause an accuracy problem even for a second-order scheme. So I always rely on surface normals at nodes, which are located on a true surface. I plan to publish a paper about this problem.

Vehicle Fire Causes Vegetation Fire
This afternoon, San Bernardino County Fire Crews responded to a vehicle fire on the shoulder of the 15 freeway in the Cajon Pass.
Upon arrival the first due engine company found a vehicle engulfed in flames and nearby brush catching fire as well. With high temperatures and an afternoon upcanyon breeze, the fire started burning upslope at a moderate rate. The incident was quickly upgraded to a full vegetation response and notifications were made to our strategic partners. As the vehicle fire was extinguished, San Bernardino County Fire Crews along with @calfirebdu crews quickly assisted the @sanbernardinonf resources since the fire had now entered the San Bernardino National Forest. All three agencies have cultivated strong relationships built on being mission oriented regardless of jurisdictional boundaries for many years.
The fire was held to 12 acres.
One firefighter was transported to a local hospital with a heat related issue and no civilian injuries were reported.

The outcomes to the biggest wildfires in history came down to the first 6 hours.
This is why our mission is advance initial attack. Make the first 6 hours effective and you save the town.
We’re the initial attack company. 🔥

When you can see the future, you can game out your wildfire response,
When you can game out your response, you win the fight in the first moments.
Paladin gives you a winning edge in initial attack.

#PickettFire Update -
3 Helicopters with night flying capabilities will continue working the fire overnight. We also have multiple ground resources that will continue with suppression efforts. There are multiple agencies are actively working to control the fire. Crosswalk church in Napa (2590 1st St) has opened its doors to people needing shelter.

I wouldn't strongly recommend, but I'd say it has. My original motivation was to gain some geometrical perspective on (numerically) solving PDEs through differential forms, manifolds, vector fields, etc., but there're also other things such as the Euler characteristic that I later found useful (e.g., Euler characteristic is actually used to check the validity of a computational grid in practical CFD codes).

The #GiffordFire has definitely spotted over the dozer line now, running back uphill.
#GiffordFire is making a strong run to the La Panza cameras on the north end of the fire. Looks like it jumped the dozer line.

These guys don’t have supercomputers.
So we built Paladin to work without one.
Risk, initial attack, situational awareness, all in one place.
Join us out in the field. Know Wildfires.
