A powerful and fitting tribute on Friday in St. John’s, as fire fighters from across Canada and the United States gathered to honour Jimmy O’Toole.
The Union Fire Club Pipes and Drums delivered an outstanding performance, representing the fire service with professionalism, pride, and respect.
We thank them for the time, effort, and commitment required to perform at this level, especially on days that carry such meaning.
Jimmy made all of us better! Rest in peace my friend we’ll take it from here! 💔 @st_1075 @IAFFCanada

Portland joins a growing list of cities taking legal action over apparatus pricing and delays.
Fire departments everywhere are paying more and waiting longer for critical equipment.
It’s market manipulation – and it’s putting public safety at risk.

Today, the Government of Canada 🇨🇦 allocated $1.5 billion to build out a nationwide EV charging network.
@CanadianPM @MarkJCarney, please give the majority, if not all of that money to @Tesla. They could build approximately 3,750 stations with 37,500 stalls that are open to all EVs.
For perspective, the @TeslaCharging network in Canada currently has 308 stations.
So far the govt spent over $1.2 billion since 2016, and we still lack a true coast-to-coast network.
Time to let Tesla accelerate us forward! ⚡️🚗🇨🇦

🔥 Halifax Professional Fire Fighters can no longer remain silent.
From wildfire preparedness to staffing, from equipment failures to workplace culture, the problems within HRFE leadership are widespread and deeply concerning.
Two years after the Tantallon wildfire destroyed 151 homes, we still see no meaningful improvements in protocols, surge staffing, or protective equipment. At the same time, management has targeted our members simply for speaking out and standing up for their colleagues.
Chief Ken Stuebing and the current Fire Management Group have lost the trust of the fire fighters who serve HRM. Our members — and the citizens we protect — deserve leadership that puts public safety and professional integrity ahead of optics.

This is a masterclass in how NOT to handle a labour conflict & foster positive labour relations, @AirCanada. Publicly blaming your flight attendants' union @cupenat for the potential stranding of passengers? Short-sighted and damaging. This approach will only further entrench positions and erode trust. A true leader seeks collaborative solutions, not public scapegoats. #LabourRelations #NegotiationFail #AirCanada #CUPE

This "investment" feels like smoke and mirrors. The NFPA standard has mandated washing our turnout gear after every exposure since 2020. Yet, until January of this year, we were lucky to get it washed once a year, regardless of contamination levels.
Five years later, is the priority truly our health and safety, or is it avoiding CNESST fines? Or perhaps the fact that we can't even keep our trucks in service because we can't keep up with the required washing frequency?
This is the bare minimum, and it's long overdue.
🚒 Montreal invests $6.4M in 2025 & $3.2M yearly from 2026 for safer #firefighter gear & decontamination! 🧯🔥 City targets risk reduction, but union prez Chris Ross calls it "bare minimum." 😷 #FirefighterSafety #Montreal
@chrisvpross, head of Montreal’s firefighters' association, welcomes funds but says it’s “the bare minimum” and overdue. 🗣️ He notes city action followed a November 2024 CNESST intervention request, citing 92 firefighter deaths in 15 years with little prior action. 😞
Top 5 Points:
💰Investment Details: Montreal allocates $6.4M in 2025 and $3.2M annually from 2026 for gear safety, maintenance, and decontamination.
🧼🧤Purpose: Funds improve traceability, decontamination, and renewal of protective clothing to reduce risks.
⏰ Ross says funds meet only basic needs, lagging by five years.
🩺 Context: Quebec’s CNESST added six cancers to the firefighter presumptive cancer list in May 2025, totaling 15.
📊: British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba, Ontario, and Nova Scotia recognize 18–20 firefighter-related cancers, compared to Quebec’s 15.
