What changed in India after Modi came to power? Before Modi.. regardless of whether the BJP or Congress was in power, thr was always an undercurrent of Hindu-Muslim hatred in some, esp if the region was influenced by RSS. But whenever communal riots happened.. elders, regardless of their religious biases, wud avoid discussing them.. they weren't okay with violence. they wud say that people who engaged in such acts were uneducated, unemployed and misguided. After Modi came to power.. it felt as though the hatred that was supposed to remain suppressed in a civil society had found public acceptance. ppl around us, whom we least expected, started justifying murders.. openly supporting Gandhi's assassination, confidently spreading misinformation about Nehru, and appreciating violence as long as the victims belonged to another religion. When BJP spoke about the "Gujarat Model" under Modi, i think I now understand what they meant by it.
