Your job may be surviving on inertia. Your resentment won’t extend the runway. What do you actually want to do with the intelligence now at your disposal?

Feels like we're all just building "things for building other things" and not a lot of "things" anymore.

Having an AI department/team would be like saying you have the Internet department/team.

With AI, everybody will make their own software just like how we all 3D print our own furniture.

I recently came across a team using an LLM to implement a state machine. They called it "agentic". They also told me it worked correctly most of the time. I asked them to write down the list of rules for moving from one state to another. They listed them out. It didn't take long for them to realize what was happening: They had built a solution using AI for a problem that didn't need AI. We removed the model and wrote some code to implement the rules. It might have taken 2-3 hours at most. They went from "it works most of the time, it's relatively fast, and it costs some tokens" to "it works 100% of the time, instantaneous, and costs nothing." So many examples like this recently. Golden rule: BUILD THE SIMPLEST THING THAT COULD POSSIBLY WORK.

Ha! you actually spent time EATING chocolate with your own mouth???! i simply got an ai model to eat it on my behalf and report its exact chemical structure to me as part of my morning daily "digest"

still think vibe coding is being used in the wrong way what's worked with LLMs so far is treating them like a dumb human you would not let a dumb human do most of the work for an early stage project you'd wait until it's mature with patterns and guardrails we're confused because we keep being told that the dumb human is gonna be smart soon

the problem with LLMs is that everyone except people who actually understand a specific field think it's a suitable replacement for experts in that field

every time you move something to a new file you create an API boundary, which requires typechecking and error handling you should do this as late as possible so you can really see the touch points and find the right abstractions to slice
Next.js and React Router 7 (RR7) have fundamentally different approaches to decomposition. In Next.js, you decompose via files. In React Router 7, you decompose via functions. Which do you prefer, and why?
