@GamesBeat NEXT crushed it again. Like a jam-packed jack-o-lantern pail full of treats, it was full of expectation-exceeding talks, high quality catchups with industry friends, and a perfect venue complete with excellent views, snacks and the best jammy porridge I've ever had.

An incredible couple of days at @UTAustin. I had the honor of being invited to give the keynote address at the 2026 Video Game and Esports Symposium to talk with students about the games industry, what’s changing, what isn’t, and how they can best prepare themselves.

I also enjoyed connecting with Byron Fong @z1bb1n, and with my three new friends from the University of Agder, Tobias Scholz @t0bs3n, Rune Andersen and Tony Bergholtz, who brought terrific perspectives on esports, education, research and the future of the industry.

A huge thank you to Ben for inviting me into the program and giving me the opportunity to crash a class and spend time with the students. It was great seeing firsthand the energy around what UT is building. And I'm looking forward to seeing where it goes from here. Hook ’em

Sunday night's "feat" (I guess they're called now) on Hearthstone. I don't even have pirates in my decks, and I don't think I ever have, which is probably a testament to how MANY games I've played in this, one of my favorite games of alltime.

A little challenge I gave myself at the beginning of the year -- get 500 wins with my Shaman deck. Mission accomplished tonight! #Hearthstone

Today, the question has evolved beyond simply whether a game is “good”. The harder question is whether this game, for this audience, at this budget, with this scope, in this market, on this timeline creates a commercial opportunity worth pursuing. lnkd.in/p/gBpq6xiJ

Happy October! New #Hearthstone achievement unlocked today. Now to finish an Underground Run with 6+ wins for part 2...?

Happy 19th Launchversary to HALO 3! I was in line at @gamestop for the midnight launch 9/25/07. Took the next day off for a “HALO Holiday”. Spent 16 hours that day in multiplayer, memorizing every inch of the maps. All time excellently spent. What a game.

A lot of game teams know how to measure interest. Usually, that starts with wishlists. Often, trailer views and demo downloads. Sometimes, Discord server size. And if they have the bandwidth, creator coverage, social engagement and sentiment.

Understanding conviction matters because while interest can often be created through reach, novelty, promotion, or a particularly strong creative beat, conviction is harder to create.

One of the biggest mistakes I see teams make is treating a large audience as proof of a convinced audience. Sometimes it is, but sometimes it's just attention. The challenge is knowing which one you have before making bigger decisions around launch, spend, positioning, or scale.
