AppSumo offers something most WordPress plugin makers want: access to new buyers. But that reach can come with a trade-off: → A cut of each sale → Lifetime updates and support → Pricing restrictions → No guaranteed sales or recurring revenue So, is an AppSumo deal worth it? 🧵

It depends on your numbers, your product, and how much support those lifetime customers will need. We break down seller fees, real campaign results, and alternatives to help you decide. Full guide: freemius.com/blog/appsumo-ma…

The first sale is always the one to remember. Especially when it comes with confetti (and @freemius). 🎉💜 xitter.cf/freemius/status/194618…
Nothing beats seeing makers get their first sale 💸 Do you remember how yours felt? Did you celebrate with a dance? scream “holy sh*t” with a big smile on your face? or take a screenshot so you’d never forget that moment? Share your story in the 🧵 and inspire future makers!

What happens when a customer cancels their desktop app subscription? Do they lose access immediately? Keep the version they paid for? Lose cloud features but keep the local app? Your pricing model needs to answer these questions before your licensing system can enforce them. 🧵

Nathan Holmquist built ScanLister, an app that lists dozens of used books on Amazon at once. For years his billing system was a Google Sheet he had freelancers build. 🧵

Meanwhile his billing tool's fee grew from $24 to $600 a month as subscribers piled up. "I really need to find something else here."

He talked to three providers and picked Freemius. Now customers reset their own keys and invoices go out automatically. The migration wasn't smooth everywhere. He shares what was harder than expected: freemius.com/blog/scanlister…

Everything I build comes from a little island in the middle of the Irish Sea. We moved to the Isle of Man from South Africa in January 2020. COVID hit 2 months later. Going from South African heat to rain 80% of the time was a shock to the system. The real headache came when I built my first SaaS. When I set up payments for PageSpike, Stripe told me it didn't support the Isle of Man. My first thought was to just end the project there. @freemius saved it. Where are you building from, and what does your location make harder? (the photo is Douglas, on one of the dry days)

Using Stripe, PayPal, or another payment provider doesn't automatically mean PCI is off your plate. Your responsibilities depend on your checkout, where card data goes, and who legally sells the transaction. 🧵

Think your payment provider handles PCI compliance for you? Not necessarily. Your checkout setup, who legally sells the transaction, and where card data goes all affect what you’re responsible for. We’re breaking it down for software makers. Coming soon.

September release notes are live. 👇 The highlight: customers can now get an email when their WordPress license is activated on a site. 🎉 Plus Checkout, Developer Dashboard, and Customer Portal fixes. Small improvements, fewer “wait, where did my license go?” tickets. freemius.com/blog/freemius-r…
