This morning when I woke up, I thought it was 7:30am, so when I took off my eye mask, I was surprised to find it was only 4:30am. But I felt awake. Not only that, I felt ENERGIZED. I have not felt anything upon waking other than utter exhaustion for at least a decade, but probably more like 16 years.
Last week, I did Function Health Labs, which are super comprehensive. I started getting results back Saturday, fed them to a private AI, and it was freaking out about how I have no energy.
YOU GUYS -- I'm a carnivore and I am ANEMIC. I have eaten red meat 🥩🥩🥩 for 99.99% of my meals for the last two and a half years, and I'm ANEMIC -- wth ferritin stores above 240! (This is so high, it was marked as dangerously high on Function Health.)
It diagnosed me with anemia of chronic inflammation, which I hadn't heard of before, but it explained to me a question I had meant to ask a doctor -- why one iron marker was low when another was high and I was eating so much red meat -- but that doctor missed it because she preferred to spend our appointment time lecturing me about how I needed to eat greens even though I told her that eating this way was making me feel BETTER 🙄. (Pro tip if you're a doctor: if a patient who has been incredibly sick for over a decade tells you something they are doing is making them feel better, BE A HUMAN AND BE EXCITED FOR THEM and don't be a fucking idiot and tell them to go back to eating the way that made them feel worse.)
I spent all weekend talking with the AI about my lab results, and it told me which supplements to take, including a few I already had on hand that it said would help. The main one it said I needed I had to order, and it will arrive next week, so I haven't even been able to take the most important one yet. DESPITE THAT, just taking the one I had lying around for the last seven days allowed me to FEEL ENERGY UPON WAKING!!!!
Is this what it feels like to be a normal human?!?!?!
Feeling energy upon waking made me want to cry. I feel so gypped!!!! I can't believe I'm only 7 days into what I need to do to get over this, and I am not exhausted and fighting to get through the day 😭 If I weren't so fucking excited, I think I'd be crying, but seriously, WTF.
Western medical doctors and the healthcare system are so fucked. Yay for comprehensive labs and AI!!!

As someone who loves brands and people and the way they coexist, I always read the comments— on every platform.
This week, under Lena Dunham’s Girls announcement on @hbomax IG, the comment that stuck with me most was from @function: “We’re all here next summer.”
Brand awareness can take a lot of forms. One of them can be human.
When my Function app loads and it says “long live Jamie,” I know they really mean it.

Just had my blood drawn before I spend a year without screens — with @function (partner)
Doctors expect brain scans and cognitive tests to change a lot
But whether hormones like testosterone will change a lot, there's some disagreement
All the data will be public: monthly blood draws covering 100+ biomarkers, brain scans, sleep data, etc.
It starts in 17 days

Incredible to see @function shown as one of seven examples of Muse connectors.
Function is already ubiquitous, yet they have barely scratched the surface of what they will achieve in the years ahead.
Way to go @swerdlin and team!
Opening access for developers to build Muse connectors. You bring the API -- Muse brings the agent, the browser, and the context of what the person actually wants. People reach your service just by asking for it, and their agent takes it from there.
New connectors are live today. Come build with us. muse.ai/platform

How to lower ApoB (the cholesterol number that actually matters) 🫀
ApoB counts the actual atherogenic particles in your blood, and it’s the best predictor we have for heart attack and stroke risk.
Here’s how to bring it down:
🥑 Diet — Swap saturated fat for unsaturated (olive oil, nuts, fatty fish). Add soluble fiber (oats, beans, psyllium). Cut refined carbs and added sugar.
🏃 Lifestyle — Losing visceral fat, regular exercise, cutting back on alcohol, and prioritizing sleep all move the needle — sometimes more than people expect.
💊 Medication — When diet and lifestyle aren’t enough, statins, ezetimibe, and PCSK9 inhibitors are proven tools — not a failure, just science doing its job.
The move isn’t diet OR meds. It’s layering what works for YOU.
My family uses Function Health (@function) every 6 months to check our ApoB plus 160 other lab values.
Educational content only — not a substitute for personalized medical advice.

Three years. Three Annual MRIs. And for the first time, a side-by-side comparison showing exactly how things have changed year over year.
As a triple board-certified cardiologist and clinical professor of medicine, I know the value of longitudinal data. This is what proactive health actually looks like, not waiting for symptoms, but building a real picture of what's going on inside your body over time.
The Annual MRI through @ezrainc, now part of @function looks for signs of cancer, aneurysms, fatty liver disease, and dozens of other conditions, often before a single symptom appears. The report comes back in plain language, with clear alerts and a year-over-year comparison if you've had one before.
I've lost close friends, fellow physicians, to aggressive cancers in recent years. I'll always wonder what earlier visibility might have changed. That's why I believe in this. And that's why my wife Karen just had her first annual MRI too.
Use code DrKahn100 for $100 credit towards your Annual MRI.

As someone who is very particular about product quality, I give @function an A+.
Their customer experience is outstanding.
1) Scheduling a blood draw takes about 30 seconds
2) Results come back fast
3) The depth of insight you get into your health is on another level

Some of my latest labs with @function
Note these lab tests are before commencing lipid lowering therapy (my baseline). Point being my goal is to get ApoB down from 75 mg/dl (where I sit with diet/lifestyle alone) to under 50 mg/dl.
Why? Details to come on YouTube

One chart should change how many think about cancer.
This is U.S. survival data from patients diagnosed between 2011 and 2017.
Local = cancer is only in the organ where it started.
Regional = cancer has reached nearby lymph nodes or tissues.
Distant = cancer has spread to other organs.
Look at what happens to 5-year survival:
Breast cancer
99% (local)
86% (regional)
29% (distant)
Colon cancer
91%
72%
14%
Melanoma
99%
68%
30%
Prostate cancer
99%
99%
31%
Lung cancer
60%
33%
6%
Pancreatic cancer
42%
14%
3%
The numbers are not current. This data is now several years old.
Since then, treatment has improved significantly for melanoma, lung cancer, kidney cancer, and some blood cancers thanks to immunotherapy and targeted therapies.
Progress has been slower for pancreatic cancer, stomach cancer, and metastatic colorectal cancer.
The percentages have changed. The pattern has not.
For many cancers, the biggest difference is not the cancer itself. It’s whether it is found before or after it spreads.

ICYMI: @joinsuppco is joining @function 🎉
Our Co-founders @smart and Nick Michlewicz have been Function members since 2022. Steve tracking his metabolic biomarkers. Nick managing his ApoB and cardiovascular health.
This didn't come out of nowhere.
Together with Function CEO & Co-founder @swerdlin, we're building what's never existed before: a direct line from your biology to your supplement stack.

We're thrilled to share that @function has officially acquired @joinsuppco.
More than 60% of Americans take dietary supplements, yet for decades, the category has lacked an independent standard for trust, efficacy, and safety.
The number one question we get at SuppCo is: "How do I know my supplements are actually working for me?"
Today, we're officially one step closer to closing that loop.
Function helps you monitor your health through a comprehensive baseline of 160+ lab tests and imaging. SuppCo provides the independent trust layer to help you verify the quality and science behind the supplements you put into your body.
Together with the Function team, we're going to build something that's never been built before: a clear line from your biology to your supplement stack, with direct insights into what’s working for you.
We're incredibly excited to join Function and contribute to their mission of helping everyone live 100 healthy years.
