Can confirm that Jon gets really into his current thing, and I regret that I couldn't take it when he switched to AI. This is one of the more hilarious things he's ever written, and some good advice to boot. Learn to use that radio, though!

Me all summer: I need to get that done but it’s way too hot outside. I will wait until the weather cools off.
Me in late October: Oh no.
As a new postdoc in 2004 who'd used UNIX and Macs for years, I had to use Windows for two weeks while waiting for my PowerMac G5 to arrive. It felt like I'd been transformed into a staid office drone punching a timeclock, and I'm pleased to report all computers are like this now.

"University researchers built a satellite that tracks people from low Earth orbit and dispatches a 5 kg payload to within .1 meter of their position, traveling at Mach 25 to anywhere on Earth in under 5 minutes. They suggest it could be used to deliver greeting cards."
Purdue University's IDEAS Lab built an autonomous drone that tracks runners through dense forests completely without GPS or cloud networks.
By running 3D LiDAR mapping and obstacle-avoidance AI entirely on-chip, it can weave under tree canopies and predict target movement through blind spots in real time.
Massive implications for next-gen search & rescue and edge AI.

"YOU made dinner?" love all the histrionic responses from my stupid family, as if I'm not sensitive and caring.
You can give him a pocket knife to carve a more comfortable handle, as far as I'm concerned! Just leave the maker's mark to confuse archaeologists.
Probably not the most ideal picture @galooticus wants to see, but I promise it never touched the ground.
Time to take this saw for a test drive!
