Hey @JohnBarrowman : I really liked seeing you at comicon Melbs, but sorry, but Australia is the home of the oldest continuing culture in the world. Not a “young” country at all.

I’ve lived in Australia for 48 years, and have never before heard the creation story of Sydney/Gadigal land. #ASM23SYD

I like the idea of TXA in 100mL bags: you can’t put it into a spinal, and it means you can’t bolus dose it inadvertently @jamesdgriffiths

Fab presentation by @jamesdgriffiths on seizures in labour. All that seizes on birth suite is definitely NOT eclampsia

#obsig23syd - interesting: people love their remi PCAs, N2O, even PCEA over other forms of analgesia and rate them high, despite often equivocal (at least for the two non-neuraxial techniques) evidence. Is it due to the patient-centred “ownership” of administering analgesia?

#OBSIG23SYD inspiring talk by @AliciaTDennis on the goals for obstetric anaesthesia- aiming for all levels of Maslow’s needs for our pregnant people and for our clinicians.

Hey, surgeons/proceduralists: it costs nothing to arrive at the front desk of theatre to say “Hi, I’m Mx XYZ, I’m a (insert specialty here), I’d like to update my list on (day)”. Because if we have to say “sorry, who are you and what day is your list” you’ll feel stupid too.

Listening to hipsters discuss Billy Joel like he’s some sort of genius and how they listened to “An Album” like it was a novel concept. Also: I missed this valuable opportunity by not checking my emails early enough. #OLD
Surgeons who promise the world without inviting palliative care teams to be part of the discussion and multidisciplinary team should be consulted with caution. Hope should be encouraged, but the truth should be told and expectations managed.

We can’t ALL be leaders. We need people to be amazing researchers, for sure, and we need to allow all who want to do that to be supported through. But we also need to support people through who are NOT researchers. But we shouldn’t FORCE research on everyone.

We need to acknowledge that research is harder for those who have carer roles, for first in family trainees, for those who are from underprivileged backgrounds.

Finally, not everyone works at a centre where there is a research lead- where is the research department at Suburban Private Hospital? At Little Base Hospital? It’s great if you’re in Metro Major, but oh so much harder elsewhere. And the emphasis on research favours Major Public.

#CSCwgtn2022 DL NOT DEAD YET! We still don’t have good evidence for its use in *paediatric* airways and sceptics in certain situations.

Effect of adding in Māori ethnicity cf Pakeha is the same as adding 9 years to your age when considering a perioperative risk in the setting of an older folks on facing a cancer operation. Like going from 85-94 years. The social determinants of health *matter*#csc2022

Solutions? First of all, accept that there are social determinants of health. “But I just treat everyone the same”: oh really? So you treat the chronically immune-suppressed, diabetic or lifetime smokers the same as your ASA 1’s? Ok then… 😱
