when the undertow feels strong, refuse to let despair consume; a tide of justice, mercy, beauty, peace, rises by our determination.

Two excerpts from an email sent by the dean of Notre Dame’s architecture program to program alums. Incredible (and incredibly sad) that anyone finds this sentiment divisive or feels attacked by it.

Tbt an oldy but a goody: Trinity Place in South Providence, built 2010-2013. Located on multiple bus routes less than a mile from downtown Providence (and the internet's favorite Union Studio project, shared recently on r/architecture and by @HousingDecode @cobylefko)

For those who agree with King Charles' views (me, sometimes), those who disagree with them (me, sometimes), and even those who don't really care (me, much of the time), this article is worth a read.

"He argues for the rehab of existing buildings; increased accessibility for disabled people; the importance of community consultation & resident-led housing cooperatives; restoring historic street patterns & reviving traditional housing types."
Don't you wish you could take an evening stroll along Philadelphia's narrow streets?

A thoughtful question about critiques and some well-worth-reading replies. A little bit of carryover for intra-team critiques in an office, too.
Does anyone have any thoughts, feelings, anecdotes, etc surrounding desk crit practices that aren’t awful, demeaning, or anxiety-inducing for design students?
Another 21st century update no one needed.

I'm both with my peeps who are celebrating the Senate passing IRA and with my peeps who are underwhelmed and critical. It's a necessary move with the actually existing Congress.

Coastal architecture in Northeastern North America is one of the more lovely forms of building we have. It's what gives many New England & Maritime towns their charm, warmth, & comfort Encouraging innovation of the form, like in Lunenberg, can marry the best of old & new!

Funny that "commercial grade" means "heavy duty" for everything except toilet paper.
