This is one of the more interesting cases I’ve heard for why we should put AI data centers in space. Yes, it would benefit a few billionaires, but it could also lessen the environmental toll on Earth. And we’re going to need to cut AI's carbon footprint in as many ways as we can. Space architect @ariel_ekblaw and I went deep on the opportunities—and many challenges—of building AI infrastructure in orbit. While social media is polarising, evidence suggests AI may nudge people towards the centre. This holds true of all studied models. Grok is more right-leaning than other models, but also has depolarising effects. By @jburnmurdoch.

A potentially significant moment in the AI race: More studies presented at the world’s top AI conference last year came from lead authors based in China than in the US. economist.com/interactive/sc…

Why this asymmetry? We also found that X's algorithm promotes political activists (especially conservative ones) and demotes traditional news media. With algorithm exposure, users follow these accounts and continue to follow them even after switching to the chronological feed.

The key finding is that switching from a chronological to an algorithmic feed shifted users toward more conservative positions: policy priorities, views on Trump's criminal investigations, and attitudes toward the war in Ukraine all shifted to the right.

“FUCK AI” is turning into a movement. After his Frankenstein Q&A at the Chinese Theater, Guillermo del Toro asked the audience to scream “FUCK AI.”

I think this article is problematic in many ways. However, one thing it gets right is the utter tyranny of AI companies. Politically, we live (or used to live) in a democracy. Technologically, we reside in a kind of dictatorship, whereby a select few ... theatlantic.com/technology/a…

This paper shows how to make AI explain itself across the whole pipeline, start to finish. This work extends explainability to cover data choices, training decisions, checks on quality, and how results are presented. Introduces Holistic Explainable Artificial Intelligence (HXAI), user-centric framework that embeds explanation into every stage of the data-analysis workflow. Each part answers plain questions, where data came from, why features and splits were chosen, what the model did, and how much to trust it. It matches explanations to 3 audiences, domain experts, data analysts, and data scientists. The same system can talk in business outcomes, quick diagnostics, or developer traces, depending on who listens. It compiles a 112 question bank and uses it to benchmark current tools. The pattern is clear, strong support for model outputs, weak support for data decisions and reliability checks. It also sketches an LLM agent that pulls together different explanation methods and rewrites them for each role. The result is not more charts, it is explanations that are accurate, actionable, and easy to use. ---- Paper – arxiv. org/abs/2508.11529 Paper Title: "A Comprehensive Perspective on Explainable AI across the Machine Learning Workflow"
