I actually agree with the hosts here that the guests should clean after themselves after they leave. That should be the bare minimum. I don’t use Airbnb regularly but that last times I did I cleaned because it’s a personal residential property that belongs to someone and you need to respect it. As a landlord I expect my tenants to leave the unit spotless after they move out. I actually expect my tenants to pay a cleaning company so they clean for them and show proof of receipt. Otherwise I’m deducting the costs of deep cleaning from their security deposit. I set my expectations very clearly in the lease agreement
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Airbnb guests are charged separate cleaning fees to cover professional turnover cleaning by hosts. Long-term residential tenants return units allowing normal wear and tear under state laws, with deposits for excess damage only. nytimes.com/2026/10/22/tra… findlaw.com/realestate/lan… hostfully.com/blog/airbnb-cl…

You’re locked in a bitter Pokémon GO turf war with a retired vet over the gym near the library. You’re starting to think you’re the only Instinct player in town.

You're in the hospitality business, not the paying-off-my-mortgage-without-consequences-or-inconvenience business.

Could you share some insights for the next generation on how they can learn from your journey and follow a similar path? What different approach did you take that helped you stand out from others? Thank you, Sunil!

this is how tolkien would do it now
Six months ago I started my first fiction book. It's low fantasy. Obviously, the first thing I built was a SQLite database. It contains 4,555 canonical facts about who's alive, who owes who, and what happened when. It's a whole universe. Book one is just a start!

abliterated/low-refusal models are interesting from a competitive perspective because even if they lag frontier by a few months on most dimensions, they’ll do things fable or astra *won’t* which is very literally a capability advantage

gcs right now are filled with people sharing their deploys to harden their own software. they’re not using astra and fable. devs hate applying for access. talk to sales or safety is…well they route around that

whether or not this is good is kinda beside my point which is just that — this is a punctuated event with new equilibria in progress
