Christ is risen from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep, trans men are men, trans women are women, nonbinary people are nonbinary, and it doesn't matter if "basic biology" cannot comprehend any of this.
Happy Easter and happy Trans Day of Visibility.

Repeatedly voting for DSA candidates because they’re the only ones who believe in supply and demand apparently has been very funny

Looks like the long-awaited bike lanes on Cortelyou and Dorchester are finally going in!
We are excited to hear that @nycmayor is prioritizing the long-delayed bike lane network in Flatbush, East Flatbush, and Midwood. We have been advocating for this network for years, both to protect cyclists and to improve safety for all road users in our neighborhoods.

ALT Screenshot of NYT article: Mr. Mamdani is also expected to announce that the city will build a bike lane network through the Brooklyn neighborhoods of Midwood, Flatbush and East Flatbush, and add protected lanes to Dorchester and Cortelyou Roads in Ditmas Park, and along Brooklyn and Kingston Avenues, also in Brooklyn. “These projects will improve the quality of life for so many New Yorkers — but until today many were stalled because of politics,” said Mike Flynn, the city’s new transportation commissioner, in a statement. “This is just the beginning.”
If you're considering whether to vote for Layla L.-G. for a leadership position in NYC DSA, read this statement from one of her supporters:
Replying to @MariamaJames13 @geofft @Staroxvia @laylaLawGisiko @DemSocialists @ManhattanDems @nydems @ZohranKMamdani @nycdistrict1 @HarveyforNY @ebottcher
Layla isn’t a Socialists. We are Democrats. We lent Zohran our endorsements & he betrayed us. New Yorkers said we are not willing to privatize Nycha. Socialists were give seats and chose to build 75% more luxury & commercial predicated on mass displacement.

So, some distinctions I see:
Raman isn’t an internal DSA leader, she’s an external leader who faces external pressures; we in DSA need to act as a counter pressure to move her in the right direction.
LLG is not a politician, does not face those external pressures. To the extent she has done things like collaborate with insane racist Vicky Paladino, there’s no practical, political explanation for this. Additionally, she’s running to be a *leader of DSA*, not asking for the tactical support *of* DSA, like an SIO would.
But perhaps more to the point, the other difference is that DSA-LA maintains its own line distinct from Raman and seeks to move her to it, whereas LLG is running to be one of the people who *establishes* the NYC-DSA line, moving the org to *her* priorities (in this case, NIMBYism/protection of her property values).
So, yes, I see a distinction between making a tactical alliance with an imperfect politician while maintaining independent commitments to our own line, versus electing someone internally who will have control *over* our line. The standards should be much higher for the latter than the former, and electing someone like LLG feels far too close to inviting a fox into the henhouse.

Actually, @SpeakerMenin: suggesting that an attack on a BANK is an attack on Jews invokes one of the oldest antisemitic talking points.
How do you get from “bank vandalized” to “possible antisemitic hate crime” without invoking the antisemitic lie that Jews control banks? – at Brooklyn, NY
The vandalism and destruction at the Capital One branch on 86th Street is deeply disturbing and unacceptable.
I have been in contact with the NYPD regarding this incident and have urged an immediate investigation, including whether this is a potential antisemitic hate crime.
There is no place for hate, intimidation or violence in New York City.

I hate when politicians say "this is not who we are"
This is who we are, who we have been. But it doesn't have to be. We can change. We must change.

Hey, @VickieforNYC, quick question.
Since when is being an educator for more than 20 years not an “actual job”? I’m sure the teachers in your district would disagree.
We already knew that you don’t care about working families in NYC, but thanks for confirming.
Correct. People have NO IDEA how much of our city government is now run by literal children who’ve never held a job.
It’s not just Zohran. He’s just the most prominent.
Everyone in that picture is an elected official in NYC and not one of them has ever had an actual job, or any real life experience for that matter. And most of them are rich kids also.

Imagine if everyone who wanted The Winds of Winter to come out faster started just writing chapters themselves and sending them to George RR Martin and asking him to include them. That's what it's like being an open source maintainer right now.
I am the secretary of a much smaller and more casual NY corporation (my church). Sometimes we don't get motions to the board in advance of a meeting because we're all volunteers... and I screenshare them and offer to read them out loud and take as long as needed scrolling.
