Your skin absorbs around 90 J/cm² of red and NIR photons per hour in sunlight. Spend a day outside, some time in direct sun, some in shade... and you're looking at 400-600+ J/cm²
Really don't think people understand just how amazing eyes are. The dynamic range within any setting, and speed of adaptation to bright or VERY dark is insane.
Every year there's a huge group of people who learn about the importance of sunlight... often because of a painful winter.
It's a THOUSAND times brighter outdoors than indoors during the day. Our eyes handle that like it's nothing, so the problem is invisible.
Imagine learning newborns grow healthier under natural light/dark cycles, and then still spending your whole day inside without seeing the sun.
Can a proper light environment make your kid more resilient? More intelligent? Stronger?
How about the light the mother is exposed to while her baby is growing?
What other "invisible" factors give you an edge?
Treat your newborn’s environment as a light/dark circadian aligned curriculum from day one with bright light outside and stimulation during the day + darkness and calm at night
Even the neonatal intensive care unit makes this case in its purest form
When preterm infants are moved from constant bright light onto a day/night lighting cycle, they gain weight faster and go home sooner
And that result holds true with the shitty isolated blue and green biased, high flicker rate lighting they have in hospitals
In the RCT, they found that infants on that light/dark cycle tolerated feeds better, drank more milk, and cut their hospital stay by roughly two weeks compared with those under continuous lighting
Even the most fragile human beings develop better when their environment tells better circadian time
Biohackers optimize away or micro dose the stresses of life.
Strength is the capacity to take damage in the world and persist.
We have a staggering lack of respect for the circadian rhythms of firefighters, nurses, pilots, etc...
Shift work is barbaric.
Let us bring a bit of sunlight back into your workspace this winter.
If you've spent the last 20+ years living primarily indoors and recently discovered the dramatic effects sunlight can have on the human body...
Winter is the perfect time to start.
The sun is gentle right now.
Get outside every morning.
By spring, you will be ready for more.
With the levels of autism we have on the Chroma team, theres zero chance you'll find our Sky Portal or Bulbs making a sound 😂🤷
Don't even get me started on flicker awareness...

The real tragedy, besides the human health cost, to creating a society that uses conventional LEDs 24/7 is the loss of ambiance
Places no longer have a character because the lighting has gone to shit
If you work on a computer, pay attention.
What if the light you work under had an impact on your body and mind?
We've thought a lot about fixing light exposure, UV to IR in any given situation.
Light is fundamental to being human.
Evidence keeps piling up.
How's your light?
A wavelength of light mostly missing from indoor lighting completely prevented experimental myopia.
Researchers put a very strong prescription lens in front of the eyes of young tree shrews to make their eyes grow longer than normal.
Under standard warm-white LEDs, the eyes became severely nearsighted (up to −11.6 D).
Adding indigo wavelenghts of light (419-446 nm) prevented the elongation and the eyes stayed around 0.4 D.
Sunlight contains more indigo light than indoor LEDs, which might be one of the reasons why spending time outdoors is protective against myopia.

Thanks for the chat, Dr. Bradford, it was a pleasure!

TBH pretty close to the prototype of our Ironforge device back in the day. The time to overheat was on the order of a single minute 😄
Hypersonic heat 🔥 Sandia’s Thermal Test Complex features a 12-panel radiant heat array that mimics heat loads relevant to hypersonic flight. The array uses 480 custom halogen lamps mounted to water-cooled reflectors to create the heat.

What would you accomplish if you had dramatically improved focus, motivation, and always got deep restful sleep?
Could a poor light environment be holding you back? 🤔
Imagine waiting till you're feeling shitty mid-winter to fix your workspace light environment.
What if the light you're under is the most important passive input to your body?
