I love showing these gorgeous 1811 Third Edition medical anatomy texts by John Bell, the Scottish surgeon who attended Mary Shelley (among many other notable names) and whose work was part of her inspiration for Frankenstein. They have 36 absolutely stunning sketch plates
ALT "The Anatomy of the Human Body: Containing The Anatomy of the Bones, Muscles, Joints, Heart, and Arteries" by John Bell, Surgeon. "And That of the Brain and Nerves, the Organs of the Senses, and the Viscera" by Charles Bell. 1811, 3rd Edition
ALT The marbling patterns on the front of the books are exquisite
ALT The antique books side by side with Victor's notebook replica from Guillermo Del Toro's version of Frankenstein, to show the inspiration
ALT One of 36 gorgeous sketch plates. This one depicts the inner workings of the human heart as understood in the late 1700s and early 1800s
