As traffic grew exponentially, we moved 99.99999% of GitHub's Git repos to Azure. A new write path moves the last, busiest repos, keeps cross-region round trips from capping throughput, and enables stateless Azure Blob Storage replicas.
Chopin + Proof-Driven Development Kit from @GitHubNext and @MSFTResearch enable teams to ship AI-generated code to production without reviewing it line by line, with stronger assurance than code review and testing alone.
Now in research preview ⬇️
How do you _guarantee_ your agent's code is correct? You prove it.
Introducing Proof Driven Development Kit (PDD Kit) from @MSFTResearch.
PDD Kit helps turn your plan into a formal spec, then proves the agent's code meets that spec for every input. No vibe verification. PDD Kit is integrated with @GitHubNext's Chopin, so you can plan as a team.
PDD Kit takes an app's login flow from intent to a verified pull request:
It discusses your code, infers your intent as it goes, and proposes a formal spec in Verus, a proof language for Rust.
Once you approve the spec, the Verus verifier automatically proves the code meets it.
Where proof isn't possible, it falls back to empirical verification with tests and computer-use agents (CUAs).
It works on Rust today. No new language, no change in how you produce the underlying code, making formal methods more accessible.
The goal is a verified software factory, where engineers review specifications instead of code.
Come see it in action at GitHub Universe, Oct 28–29. Swing by the Speakeasy and ask for GitHub Next!
Most high-impact bugs are still authorization issues, says one top GitHub researcher. When it comes to AI, a fast car still needs a good driver.
We ask them about their method 👇

We worked with maintainers, including @tianzhouchen, to build a better way to track GitHub stars over time.
The new API returns daily star counts without exposing who starred a project, making star history easier to retrieve, cheaper to serve, and more private.
Here's how we built it:

Agents don’t just help build features. They can help try to break them, too.

Your workflows have changed with AI. How about your setup?
Physical controls are back. Take the new Logitech MX Keypad, now directly integrated with the GitHub Copilot app.
This experience allows you to run agentic workflows with control, map a repeated prompt, start or resume a session, and help you stay in flow.

Even when the end-to-end tests pass, I sometimes want to see a feature working before I approve a PR.
The GitHub Copilot app lets me watch my agent run tests, build the app, and check a filter change in the built-in browser canvas.
I can verify the behavior without leaving the app or switching windows. Here's a quick walk-through. 👇

⭐ We shaped our new repo star history API around production evidence and maintainer feedback. Now it provides trends without returning individual identities or requiring unbounded database work.

As low-quality contributions increase across open source repositories, more contributors should have the tools to help manage repos.
Users with triage, write, maintain, or admin access can now archive PRs.

Users with triage role or higher can now archive and unarchive pull requests.
• Archiving closes PRs, makes them read-only, and hides them from public view
• Unarchiving restores commenting but does not reopen the PR
