Thanks to anyone who decided to donate to a stranger in need. He reached his target!
Please read and consider donating to this fund to help my old friend and colleague Angus get treatment for a rare form of cancer. Maybe you don’t know him, but he is such a great person who brings joy and laughter to everyone he meets. A truly special guy gofund.me/895a11e5

Well, it’s been a hell of a time on this site over the years, but so many reasons to leave now. I’m gradually moving operations over to Bluesky - best alternative I’ve tried so far. Link to my BS in my X profile.

Maybe not the end of me here - will keep the profile running for a bit at least. And might return if there’s a good reason to.

For the last 18 months or so it's been super clear Musk is on a journey to outright white supremacism. This is perhaps the most explicit he's been yet.

James Cleverly has got off on the right foot with Home Office civil servants Yesterday afternoon, he gave a speech from the atrium of the department's Marsham Street headquarters that was broadcast to all staff, and went down very well Here's what he said:

Among many things the now former Home Secretary Suella Braverman said and did, one thing that I don't think has been scrutinised at all adequately is her decision to scrap degree-level qualifications in policing.

Agree with parts of this thread - there is something going on in many organisations, where the voice of individuals and the org itself is more comfortable with expressive behaviour that may be seen as inappropriate by some and was previously (or still is) prohibited
Interesting article, suspect many won't like it because of where it is, but I have heard lots similar from lots off officers, and it isn't just about public order and recent protests, its about politicisation of the police, and more. A short thread. dailymail.co.uk/news/article…

But overall narrative of the article I think is flawed, as it conflates a few issues that are better explained outside of this shift (I.e. the way anti-lockdown protests were dealt with). The populist right (incl Braverman) have tied these issues together for political expedience

Was about to make a similar point - lots putting blame squarely on the Home Sec’s article, but that seems excessive. I was under the impression from previous statements (before Times piece) that police were preparing for this type of trouble?
Replying to @James_Treadwell
It's hardly surprising that a new old form of EDL appeared on the streets yesterday and behaved as it did. It is hardly all Suellas doing. This has been coming for quite a long while, I would say, and there is a lot more to it than a Sunday Times article.

It’s more difficult to know how Home Sec’s rhetoric over a longer period might have an emboldening effect - though of course th effect is plausible or even likely. Adding to @James_Treadwell’s point about EDL perception of differential treatment, Braverman has aired their…
