What should regulators do when breakthrough innovations emerge? Find out how experimentation can help regulators navigate unknowns, anticipate challenges, and develop better responses in this practical guide we created with @nesta_uk and Canada’s Centre for Regulatory Innovation.
Experimentation enables regulators to reduce uncertainty & to inform regulatory decision-making. In collaboration with @Nesta and @sciencepractice, we have developed a toolkit to provide regulators with a practical guide to running regulatory experiments: buff.ly/3CZyJWb

Innovation rarely happens through the actions of a single person or organisation. Yet the role of intermediaries that bring innovators together is frequently overlooked. New report, with Laurie Smith, @100open, @sciencepractice, aims to fill this gap: nesta.org.uk/report/innovati…

1/ A short thread on something I was happy to discover I was wrong about:
I knew what is shown here: in rich countries smoking increased hugely and killed – and still kills – many millions. And then declined.
I thought that poorer countries are following this development.

Just updated our @OurWorldInData work on Indoor Air Pollution.
Still one of the largest (& fixable) env/health challenges.
It's a leading risk factor for early death, especially for the poorest.
Short thread of the key points.

Introducing the Sherlock Holmes of science fraud, Elisabeth Bik (@MicrobiomDigest).
I wrote about how she spends her days voluntarily scouring the internet to seek out manipulated images in published papers, and reports the shoddy scientists behind them.

Blimey. Big topic. Wee thread.
1. You can study properly (e.g., RCTs) whether charities that publish good #impact stats get more ££. I know of one such study*. It showed that they don't (rather subtle story actually). But one study doesn't always make a conclusion.

Fascinating book: Discerning Experts exposes the pressures leading climate scientists towards "‘least common denominator' results—minimalist conclusions that are weak or incomplete."
