Tonight, a mosque hosted a Shabbat against genocide. Jews, Muslims and people of different backgrounds standing together for Palestine and humanity. This is who we are in South Africa. @SAJFP_
Join us for a Shabbat Against Genocide, together with Mothers for Gaza, hosted by Clairemont Mosque, Friday 6 Nov 6pm. We continue in horror to watch the genocide continue and Palestinians living under inhuman conditions. but we know a Free Palestine is closer than ever.

1969 a US soldier is asked: "If you could send one message to Americans 50 years in the future what would it be?" "Don't send your sons to finish what politicians start."

This is Pauline Lumumba, the woman who watched them kill her husband and then walked half-naked in protest. You may not have seen the photo, but it shows a Congolese woman, bare-chested, with her hair shaved, walking in the street crying, with a child tied on her back. That woman is Pauline Opangu Lumumba, the wife of Patrice Lumumba, in 1961. Patrice was only 35 years old and had been Prime Minister of Congo for just 67 days. His crime was that he declared, "Congo is not Belgium's property. Our gold, our copper, and our diamonds will feed our children." Because of those words, Belgium, America, and his own army chief, Mobutu, decided that he must die. On January 17, 1961, they took Patrice, together with Maurice Mpolo and Joseph Okito, to Katanga. Pauline recounts what happened to him in harrowing detail. She said they beat him for hours, pulled out his teeth, and forced him to eat his own speech papers. Then a Belgian officer, Gerard Soete, shot him. After that, they cut his body into pieces with a saw and poured acid over it to dissolve him, so that no grave would ever exist. There was no body, no grave, only acid. When they told Pauline, she did not scream. In Congolese tradition, she shaved her hair to mourn her husband. She removed her top to show the world, "You have stripped me of my husband. I have nothing left." Then she walked barefoot from Leopoldville to the place where they killed him, a journey of 1,000 km, with her baby on her back, singing his name all the way. Mobutu, who took part in killing her husband, went on to become President for 32 years with US support. Belgium kept Lumumba's gold tooth as a souvenir in a police station until 2020. Patrice Lumumba died because he wanted a united Africa, like Gaddafi. Pauline died in 2014, still waiting for his body to be buried, and she never remarried. That is the price of saying, "Africa for Africans." And you still think Africa's poverty is because we are lazy?

The Palmer omission arguably makes more sense than the Acheampong one. The Chelsea defender has played more minutes than Trent and Ben White, while slightly less than Jarell Quansah, is playing in a more competitive competition than him. Acheampong has also been good and reliable for the Under-21s.
It’s time to talk about Josh Acheampong. The 20-year-old is finally establishing himself under Xabi Alonso.💫 He’s targeting an England call-up, while the club face a decision over whether to accelerate talks over a new contract. Contract expires in 2029 bbc.co.uk/sport/football/art…

Looks like @UnionStGilloise has found another gem in Mofokeng (22). His data in @OfficialPSL for @orlandopirates last season was tremendous & he has kept up his form. He is a hybrid of AM-LW & looks like a great talent. Defensively he is still not great though. #jpl #scouting

Xabi Alonso's football is apathy inducing. It's so nondescript. It's like what you'd see if a team had no coach. And this is with full weeks of training.

The performance was a disgrace. Ridiculous team selection, tactics, substitutions, set-pieces and physical intensity. Even getting one of those elements spot-on and you beat this Spurs side.

So let met get that straight: paying a wealth tax is impossible (“billionaires have no liquidity”, “it would be taxing unrealized gains”, “their wealth is virtual”) but paying half a billion to influence elections is possible. Did I understand well?
Elon Musk has cemented his record as the largest individual political donor in modern American history. Musk poured $446 million of his own money into this year’s midterm elections, mostly aimed at preserving the Republican Party’s control of Congress. wapo.st/4igb5Kq
