#MtElgonProject:
11 FARMER GROUPS IN MT. ELGON SUB-REGION RECEIVE COFFEE PRODUCTION MACHINES
NEMA through its Mt. Elgon Project, and partners SECU, KMWE and BIACE, has equipped more than 11 farmer groups with coffee pulping machines, digital weighing scales and other post-harvest tools to improve coffee quality and farmers’ livelihoods.
The intervention promotes shared access to equipment, enabling farmers to process their coffee cherries affordably, improve quality and enhance their market competitiveness.
At Katongo Growers Cooperative Society, the equipment is expected to benefit 1,650 farmers, while Chema Growers Cooperative Society expects to serve 663 farmers.
At Bumati, 103 members, including 16 women, are expected to benefit.
By combining practical tools with farmer empowerment, the project is strengthening coffee production and supporting more inclusive, sustainable livelihoods across the Mt. Elgon sub-region.

When heavy rains come, families lose property, businesses suffer and roads flood. As we talk about El Nino rains, let's not ignore how poor waste disposal and wetland destruction worsen flooding. We must protect our environment to protect our communities.

How Batwa lost their land
Anthropologists and historians have often placed the Batwa under the broad term “pygmies”, a word that carries a painful history. Although it was originally used to describe several short-statured forest communities in Central Africa, the word has also been used to mock and belittle them.
