🇦🇺 Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has defended the possibility of staging selected Brisbane 2032 Olympic events outside Queensland to reduce costs and make use of existing venues.
Albanese backed options including rowing in Penrith, New South Wales, and tennis in Melbourne, Victoria, while insisting Brisbane would remain the Games’ centrepiece. He cited Paris 2024, when surfing was held in Tahiti.
Queensland Premier David Crisafulli opposes moving key events interstate, arguing that local communities should benefit from Olympic investment.

Lots of important messages regarding inclusion in sport in Usman Khawaja’s journey - there should be more players with subcontinent heritage in the Australian team - excellent Australian Story
That’s a great appointment - sadly many NSOs do not have current/past athletes with disability on their boards - even though they receive substantial govt funding for their Paralympic programs
Congratulations to three-time Paralympic gold medallist Vanessa Low on her appointment to the Australian Athletics Board of Directors.

There should be more programs interviewing athletes and other officials - particularly when they are reflecting on their careers. Lots of life lessons. I used to enjoy @MitchellGlenn series.
This Is Your Journey @Sammy__Edmund is great company for Sunday morning gym sessions. You have a real gift. McGain was great. Is Greg Shipperd on your agenda?
Interesting interviews with @aclennell - sadly both parties make sport facility election commitments heavily directed at their or winnable seats. Time to have an evidence based program on need and equity throughout Australia australiansportreflections.c…

Do we need a plebiscite on the stadium as the community is very divided - yes in the city, yes elsewhere and no stadium other priorities more important ?
Plans for a new lakeside stadium in the centre of Canberra have emerged this month, with ACT Chief Minister Andrew Barr calling for the proposed rectangular venue to also be configured for AFL and cricket matches.

🇦🇺 Queensland Sports Minister Tim Mander is facing growing scrutiny over the cost and delivery of the Brisbane 2032 Olympic venues programme, with the government declining to publish project deadlines while negotiating major contracts.
The venues budget stands at A$7.1 billion (€4.45bn), but a recent Resolve Political Monitor survey found that around two-thirds of Queensland voters had little or no confidence that the government would stay within the promised budget.
The poll surveyed 434 voters between 6 and 10 October, with scepticism reported across party lines, adding pressure on the government to demonstrate cost control and transparency.

Interesting to listen Senator McKenzie criticise the govt on the grants program to pay for their election commitments - I was wondering what scheme they would use to pay for their sport commitments. Sport barrelling should stop for both parties

Thanks Frank and Joshua - always good to have political history insights into current events
Australian history has been relatively free of political violence. But there have nonetheless been some shocking incidents from which we should learn. @fbongiornoanu @Joshua_Black97 @UniCanberra theconversation.com/australi…
Schedules are now for television not for attending spectators. Should have been scheduled for Saturday night.
7.15pm on a Sunday not the most spectator friendly time for a match. Would not be unhappy if this wrapped up early @cricketcomau
