Sounds bad. In my opinion, they ought to have celebrated the contributions of Eastern European Jews instead.
That's not the point. If I have a day to celebrate French culture, am I allowed to celebrate French Jews as well? Or is that off-limits because their Jewishness is of "higher salience?"
(It would actually be fine to celebrate Beckett, who lived in France for decades and was a member of the French Resistance, during an event celebrating French culture.)
I see. So Jews can't be Eastern Europeans and Eastern Europeans can't be Jews? What about the one million Jews that live in Europe now? Are they European, or something else?
It isn't like that at all because Samuel Beckett was born in Ireland and Marc Chagall was born in Eastern Europe.

the angry replies to a neutral analysis like this reveal the central problem at play for trans people in the party: they can attack us as much as they want to appeal to swing voters, but us not voting for them in response is illegitimate. we are not allowed to do politics.
