Last day at work before my first career sabbatical. 6 months to sail the South Pacific. Been asking people for advice: + Whatever you do don’t drink salt water. + Take a plane. It’s faster. + Have a pirate flag, you might need to get in with them.

You want to have a bottle, a cork and some paper just in case. Pack some oranges. I've heard scurvy's bad. Record a podcast when you want to talk to someone. Get sailor tattoos. Stay afloat. Make sure someone always knows where you are. Don’t hit an iceberg.

+ Don't pet the animals. + Have fun. + Don't do it. + Remember to pull the sails out. + Swim in the middle of the ocean.

Twitter - what startups do you know that invested in their customer / member experience to drive growth?
If a staff member is harassed over email or in a meeting by a supplier, partner or client, what’s your go-to action?

6 weeks out from sabbatical I have to keep telling myself no more listening to business podcasts and must listen to safety at sea books.

In the middle of the Bass Strait, don’t think org strategy is going to help me much.

Preach.
“It’s not you, it’s the stage of the company.” I have had this same conversation recently with a number of friends who joined a startup very early, did amazing work, saw huge scale of the company, and were now feeling stuck, unwanted, some even pushed out by a new manager

My mom’s an artist and I want to convince her to try #NFTartist. Anyone have advice on how to start?

We're moving to a squad based model where teams are more accountable for their goals rather than just their craft. It's incredible how much culture is held in functional teams right now.

Who knew that working remotely I would learn to hate Slack.

Anyone in this Twittersphere gone on sabbatical and planned their role cover?

Has anyone made a thing that helps start-ups match their policies to their current size? Think they'd make a lot of money. You're either re-doing the policy all the time or it doesn't match the present day.

Lesson from an org that’s remote but still operating on set office hours: don’t share things you want people to read on Slack after 4:30.

More leaders should be saying they want their team to be able to do the best work of their life at said company. Standards people, standards.

Best question of the day: "all the agencies I look at say they're creative, strategic communications and marketing. What's that actually mean?"

What's the best strategy process you've been in? What made it good?
