🧵 I have seen and know a number of people considering applications for jobs at Holyrood. I’d urge people to think long and hard before applying. Whilst such jobs can open doors, provide opportunities etc, there are risks. See this story in March👇 bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c20l…

This is quite something ! Serbian RTV channel starts yesterday's bulletin by apologizing to viewers👇 "For years, we failed to fulfill our duty. We kept silent, turned a blind eye, reported events one-sidedly and failed to ask necessary questions. We owe our viewers an apology”

Today, alongside @FoEScot, we launch the new report from the Just Transition Partnership: 'Let's Go Public'. For too long has public money funded energy, transport & retrofit programmes that remain in private hands. It's time to take back power; it's time for public ownership.

Today I was denied entry into the West Bank, alongside other parliamentary colleagues from across Europe as part of a @ProgIntl delegation. We were held for 8 hours, interrogated and ultimately prevented from crossing the border. I came to stand alongside Palestinians being attacked for harvesting olives on their own land. Instead, we were turned away, with no reason given. More than ever, Palestinians are being subject to terror and violence by the IDF and illegal settlers. Increased blockades, demolitions and unthinkable violence have become the norm for Palestinians in the West Bank. It is more important now than ever that we bear witness and show our solidarity. But we were prevented from doing so. I will continue to do everything I can to apply pressure on the Netanyahu government, and those responsible for the persecution and genocide of the Palestinian people.

90,000 homes in Scotland and the north of England remain without power after flooding and high winds caused by Storm Boelo. Clean up efforts have been hampered by strong winds which have continued to gust up to 85 miles an hour. Some schools in Scotland will stay closed today because they don't have heating or water. The Met Office has issued another yellow warning for wind on Tuesday for much of Scotland and other northern areas.

It's been a bad week for the climate. The oil & gas lobby decades long battle against climate consensus & net zero has finally borne fruit. Such is the sophistry they've even convinced us that new drilling is somehow 'good' for the climate. Job almost done as the profits roll in.

The government has given the go-ahead to gas extraction from the Jackdaw field in the North Sea. Tessa Khan, who founded Uplift, an organisation working towards the transition away from oil and gas, tells Channel 4 News reliance on fossil fuels has caused energy bills to soar.

The Scottish Green members bullying a young, disabled, trans woman like this should be ashamed of themselves. No wonder so few in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire want to stand as local candidates. Those responsible are well known. Action is long overdue. pressandjournal.co.uk/fp/pol…

A few thoughts on the announcement that the Jackdaw gas field development will go ahead 🧵 You'll hear claims today arguing we need Jackdaw for various reasons. Primarily some combination of energy security, perhaps cheaper bills and jobs. We should be sceptical of them.

When it comes to investing oil and gas revenues in green sectors, we should remember politicians have argued for ringfencing North Sea taxation for half a century, without any success whatsoever. The Treasury view that all tax ought to be in the general budget has always won.
There’s actually a green case for new North Sea production: – Domestic gas is 18% less carbon-emitting than imports from the US and the Gulf states. – Higher tax revenue can be used to support green energy, EVs and heat pumps. arguably.uk/p/is-net-zero-st…

There is an increasingly disingenuous narrative peddled in Scotland about the impacts of granting new oil and gas licenses on North Sea production levels and job security. Amid this, it’s important to look at evidence 🧵
