then the rain began rhythm tapped on windowsill as i wrote to you

sink into the bath jazz hour on the radio around midnight miles

green falling to brown monday already is here autumn on my mind

you have turned the page of a book read many times as i slip through dreams

darker by degrees each time I open my eyes silhouette of trees

fog of the morning i remember yesterday walking out with you

already near dusk leaves fold and fall around us as we step outside

the early riser this morning captures sunrise you’re lark ascending

i’ll call you later day of possibilities we’ll meet for coffee

watching the trawlers stapled to an horizon opaque in sea mist

the wind of the world on this blowy coastal day sandy grit in eyes

ginger cat rolling world continues without me in gold fallen leaves

rain nearly all day cat yowling out of the storm step into puddle

before the storm hales we sit in dusk- like silence somewhere a dog barks

town clock strikes nine times foxes stare each other out darkness of this street

grey days in autumn umbrella up, think of you dreaming in sunshine

wonderful autumn with your wet glistening streets fallen sodden leaves

watch you wash dishes speaking to the radio sunday service time

sleeping on the tube your dreams take you miles away rock of the carriage

listen to the rain conversations never had i was your daughter

too late to call out someone left their life behind lost keys on the tube
