Wiktoff also praised Putin as a "humanitarian" for Hubbard's release. Just this week, Putin's war in Ukraine killed scores of civilians, including a one year old child
A video shared with CNN showed Hubbard meeting Witkoff & Russia's Kirill Dmitriev at the airport.
Witkoff told Hubbard, who had spent years in Russian prison, that Putin “sends you blessings and wishes you good things.”

HUGE NEWS: I'm so excited to tell you all about the Sloth Act!!!
It will BAN SLOTH IMPORTS to the United States and its due to @RepMaxwellFrost's serious approach and thoughtful work. His team has collaborated with @slothinstitute and @SlothCon to get this right.
This will save the lives of sloths.
The horror of Sloth World where dozens of sloths died due to improper handling and care underscored the need for this.
Sloths are incredibly delicate and they do not do well in captivity. We should not be bringing them to the U.S.
LIVE: Congressman Maxwell Frost and other leaders are holding a news conference to introduce the Sloths Act, a bill that would largely ban sloth imports into the U.S.
It comes in wake of the 50+ sloth deaths connected to Sloth World Orlando. xitter.cf/i/broadcasts/1Oxwbnjrj…
Took a few rounds to get back into the swing of things but I don’t think my dad is disowning me just yet

For perspective: White House Press Secretary Katie Zacharia has held the same amount of on-camera, on-the-record press briefings since taking the position on Oct. 9 as Pentagon Press Secretary Kingsley Wilson who assumed the position in May 2025.

Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell says in a statement Hegseth spoke with Trump about this & "they are completely aligned."
This comes about a week after Hegseth made clear he was fully in favor of livestreaming the execution & confirmed the Pentagon planned to do so -- pretty clearly getting out ahead of the President in the process.

Trump officially calls off plans to livestream the Fort Hood shooter’s upcoming execution
“I think streaming the execution for all to see might have been a strong deterrent for the World to witness how America deals with Terrorists and SCUM like Hasan but, many very good and well meaning people would rather not watch him die, through streaming, or through any other visual device. He will die, as scheduled, by firing squad, but this event will not be streamed.”
New: Trump and his advisers are debating whether to call off plans to livestream the firing squad execution of the Fort Hood shooter, with Trump having remarked privately that he did not initially know that Nidal Hasan was paralyzed from the waist down, two sources familiar with the discussions told CNN cnn.com/2026/10/13/politics/…
Exclusive: As the Trump admin faces pressure to end the war with Iran, the US military has developed strike plans that include potentially using the so-called “mother of all bombs” to target Iranian energy infrastructure and nuclear sites — an escalation, though sources say there are doubts over how effective it would be in actually accomplishing any of Trump’s strategic objectives.

“I wouldn't be watching it if it was aired,” House Speaker Mike Johnson told CBS News’ @Costareports on the Pentagon plans to livestream the execution by firing squad of Nidal Hasan, the ex-Army major convicted of killing 13 people at Fort Hood in 2009. “I need to tell the White House what some of my colleagues think about that and not everybody's in favor of the idea,” Johnson said as backlash grows from both Republicans and Democrats. cbsn.ws/4zrseYu
Archbishop for the Military Services, Timothy Broglio, on the proposed livestream execution of Nidal Hasan:
"Has the potential moral injury, which the members of the firing squad might experience, been considered? Will the exposure of a live-stream to the young and impressionable during the 250th anniversary year of our independence be able to be repaired? The US military generally enjoys a good reputation in the world. Is there really a value to throwing them in the same boat with terrorists by broadcasting the image of the execution of a man in a wheel chair to the whole world?"

Hegseth’s comment was the first time many in the Army and Pentagon heard about the idea of a firing squad’s execution of Nidal Hasan being made public, and there were immediately questions about what “public” would mean.
But it was decided by Hegseth, acting Army Secretary Adam Telle, and Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell and his staff that “public” would mean it would be live-streamed.
cnn.com/2026/10/10/politics/…
NEW: The Pentagon’s announcement that the the execution of Nidal Hasan would be live-streamed caught people across the Army and the Pentagon off guard, who are now scrambling behind the scenes to figure out how it will work.
There are concerns about the psychological impacts on the soldiers and personnel tasked with overseeing it and carrying it out, and questions about if soldiers can say no. One source said a specific unit has already been chosen to carry out the execution, but that a live-stream raises risks about those service members being identified to the world.

NEW from me: The National Association of Evangelicals (along with several other religious groups) are now joining the USCCB in condemning Defense Sec. Pete Hegseth’s plans to publicly execute Nidal Malik Hasan, also saying doing so promotes a “culture of death.”
