RUNNERS ROBBED DURING JOHANNESBURG 10KM RACE
Scores of runners are among those who had their cellphones stolen during a 10km race in the city of Johannesburg today.
One runner says her bag was cut while she was running. She is unsure exactly where along the route the theft occurred, but claims that “many runners” were targeted.
Another runner says she was targeted at the start.
There is also speculation that some of those responsible may have been posing as runners to gain access to the race and target participants.
Race organisers need to come out and explain what happened and how many runners were affected.
With Absa as the sponsor, there will also be legitimate questions about the safety and security arrangements surrounding the event. @AbsaSouthAfrica @Absa
Runners deserve answers!

Crime destroys everything that is beautiful about South Africa.
It was a great run, but criminals posing as runners targeted us. Im currently at the police station with more than 100 other people whose phones were stolen. What should have been a day of celebration has ended with hundreds of victims reporting the same crime. @AbsaSouthAfrica
Today is the day our President should be addressing the citizens of this country.
Today, this evening Mr President, it’s time you reassure us that Criminals have no where to hide in Mzansi!
Today, this evening Mr President, is the day you tell us that hashtags are just the beginning!
Today, we await to hear from you Mr President @CyrilRamaphosa
We need to see and hear that anyone who dare to challenge the state and murder women like flies deserve to experience the full might of the South African Law Enforcement Cluster.
Tonight, this evening Mr President, is the day!

💖 IN HER HONOUR RUN 💖
On 10 September, Elizabeth Moselakgomo, affectionately known as “Tsontso”, went out for a run in Kempton Park. She never made it home. It is with deep sadness that we now mourn her passing.
A runner went out to do something she loved — and her story is a heartbreaking reminder of the reality many women face every time they step onto the road.
In Her Honour is our reminder that women deserve to feel safe on the road. It is about running together, looking out for one another and standing with our women — not only on Tuesdays, but every day.
This Tuesday, Waterfall City Athletics Club dedicates our In Her Honour Run to Tsontso. 💖
Wherever you are, run in solidarity for her. Let’s continue to run with our women, no matter their pace, look out for one another and help create roads where every woman can run without fear and return home safely.
For Tsontso. For every woman. In Her Honour.
