Nifty Ends Flat After Choppy Session; Mid & Smallcaps Continue to Shine
After yesterday’s sharp recovery from lower levels, Nifty ended flat at 22,749.
Most sectors closed higher, with Nifty Media, Realty, Pharma, Chemicals, Healthcare and Auto gaining over 1%. Cement, private banks, financial services, and IT ended lower.
Broader markets extended their outperformance for a second straight day. Nifty Midcap 100 rose 1%, while Nifty Smallcap 100 surged 2.7%. Market breadth improved sharply, with the BSE advance–decline ratio at 2.13, reflecting renewed buying interest in mid- and small-cap stocks after last week’s steep correction.
The Indian rupee snapped a three-day losing streak, appreciating 8 paise to close at 95.11. With three key central-bank decisions scheduled this week, currency volatility is likely to remain elevated.

Nifty snaps four-day losing streak; midcaps, smallcaps outperform
Nifty snapped a four-session losing streak, gaining 153 points to close at 22,753.
Except for Nifty Media and Consumer Durables, all sectoral indices closed higher, with Metal, Cement, Pharma and Healthcare at the forefront of the advance.
After last week’s sharp sell-off, the broader markets staged a pullback, with Nifty Midcap 100 and Smallcap 100 rising 1.2% and 1.4%, respectively.
Market breadth strengthened, with the BSE advance–decline ratio climbing sharply to 1.21, signaling renewed buying interest in mid- and small-cap stocks following last week’s steep correction.
The Indian rupee fell for a third straight session, losing 25 paise to close at 95.19 against the US dollar, pressured by weaker Asian currencies and rising domestic bond yields.
