In adolescence I dreamt and daydreamt of a play I would produce based on this painting, where this Orpheus would contend against a man in black upon the stage. For weeks I failed to conceive any ending except these two figures chasing each other down endless tunnels & corridors.

Orpheus would always move, like a god, slowly and in place upon the center stage, while the man in black prowled the periphery and would even stand as an attendant to Orpheus. I wrote pages upon pages to complete the work, but the ending always lapsed into interminable chases...
