One way or another, this film will get made. Script is written, director is attached (me), talent is attached (character ref images 😂) and I feel the never ending call every day to keep working on it in some way or another. Back in late 2020, after finishing my first feature film, OJAI, I started writing the script for this next big feature length project (PAYOLA). The story has evolved quite a bit over the years, but even back then, I knew as I was writing it that the cost to make it for real would be hilariously astronomical in comparison to the budget of OJAI. Crashing sports cars into the Malibu ocean, blowing up mansions, etc etc. even doing it with VFX, this would not be a casual student film situation. Fast forward to present day and wow…maybe, just maybe….theres a way to make this entire thing with AI and still have it be the meaningful visually emotionally rich film that I need it to be. One way or another, we’ll find out what lies beneath the glittering surface.
