One huge ah-ha for me this year has been the correlation between correct letter formation and reading ability. Adding 2-3 minutes of explicit handwriting practice to my reading groups has been a game changer. @napls_ps @helloliteracy

Track 2 Teachers got to observe an incredible small group structured literacy lesson by @MsBrittCampbell today on their workday! We are committed to learning from one another as we make shifts in our small group instruction. @SalemElementary #SalemRollinStrong 🛼🛹 🛴

Today we grew our reader and writer brains and learned about the different parts of speech, syllable types, and visualizing skills! @helloliteracy, thank you for not only teaching these fourth graders today, but also their fourth grade teacher! 🤍 📚 #SalemRollinStrong

That is happening quite often these days. @ssvincent reported she was also trained in OG. Seems the centrists and RR teachers are quite willing to learn new things (BTW they always have been). It's a lesson that the "my way or the highway" branch of SOR needs to learn.

Our instruction around teaching HFW has to shift. Brains are not wired to learn thousands of words as whole parts—so no more straight memorizing. We have to teach the decodable parts. Children will do better at learning HFW if they’re good decoders. #makingshifts 📚

FLUENCY is the skill that nobody seems to talk about but it is the bridge from phonics to comprehension. Fluency incorporates the automaticity of phonics and the prosody needed to comprehend well. @TimRasinski1 @janhasbrouck

Important note—This is a call for reflection and a heart to keep seeking out new knowledge..and to discern based on info from both perspectives on this topic. I believe in both.

DOG UPDATE. ⚠️ Just heard back from Dog's team. Dog is not at the Reserve, he's at a campground that he says was visited twice by the parents in recent weeks. He is waiting for authorities to arrive. #BrianLaundrie #GabbyPetito #DogTheBountyHunter @DogBountyHunter @WFLA
