My team @WSJ first visited Maine just as Graham Platner was gaining serious momentum over Dems' preferred candidate. That’s when we started digging into the core question: Where did he come from?

Had a great time doing this project on my beloved South Carolina for @wsj. Check it out if you can.

Truly saddened to hear of Helen’s passing.
A few moons ago, I was a reporter on the Covid beat at CNBC. It was a gig I fell into simply because they needed more people to cover this novel virus creeping across Italy. I was barely out of college and felt way over my head (1/2)

.@HelenBranswell was the best infectious disease reporter on the beat. You could learn so much from the way she asked a question on a press call. All her stories were essential reading. RIP

Per a note to Boston Globe staff today, the lesbian bar story generated 1,000 subscriptions to the paper yesterday. The Globe’s managing editor said it was “by far our best performing story of the year,” and appears to be “on pace to shatter all sorts of Globe records.”

Graham Platner's rise happened entirely outside the Democratic Party's establishment, handpicked by a group of independent activists.
Before a woman Platner was romantically involved with publicly alleged that he sexually assaulted her, WSJ's Aaron Zitner reported on the strategy behind the activists' gamble on the Maine Democratic Senate nominee.
The sexual assault allegation, which Platner denied, has prompted top Senate Democrats and close allies to rescind their endorsements, cut off funding and call for him to drop out.
Sen. Bernie Sanders said on Tuesday that he had spoken with Platner and “in light of these very serious allegations, I have recommended that he step aside.”

President Trump needs five votes at the Supreme Court if he wants to maintain the global tariffs at the center of his economic plan. He seems likely to fall short of that number. Hear what the justices had to say 🎧: wsj.com/politics/policy/a-ju… (🎁🔗) w/@jamesromoser @higginsdunn
