Electric cars about to overtake petrol.
I always said EVs would take over by 2028.
It’s looking like we can bring that prediction forward, by at least 6 months.
On the current trends, it’s possible that we will see a month, where more EVs are sold than petrol by April 2027.
By October 2027, EVs will outsell petrol cars, every month, forever.

Breaking: China’s CO2 emissions fell 3.1% in Q3 of 2026, the largest drop since 2022 Covid lockdowns. High oil prices and EVs pushed down oil demand, clean energy growth displaced coal power, steel and cement emissions fell, and coal-to-chemicals industry growth kept slowing.

“We don’t need to replace waste,” as I told @FT.
Electrifying doesn’t just change the fuel, it shrinks the amount of energy you need.
Our forthcoming paper finds the same useful energy with roughly half the primary energy.
I call it Electrofficiency.

the Democrats won big but their troubles are only just beginning. The leaders expected to take the top positions - Jeffries and Schumer - are both from NYC. Many in the caucus will be hoping for a fresh start, not the old guard.

The cost of housing comes mostly from land values, which are shaped by the work society does around it. It's fair for that value to be shared with the larger society that created it.

📉 The 2023 rebound was a false bottom.
🇨🇦 MLS benchmark: $651,400, down 22.5% from the 2022 peak and the lowest since Feb 2021.
🔻 Ontario: −26.7% from peak. The typical home has lost ~$269K.
🔻 B.C.: −4.7% y/y, falling fast.
🔼 Quebec: hit record high in April.
🏔️Alberta: 3.6% off its peak.
🔮 My take for 2027:
No growth in ON or BC, and likely flat in QC and AB too.

it's not a war on money laundering. There's been very little done to stop the flow, perhaps because many people benefit from the flow of money.
EDITORIAL: Losing the war on money-laundering
One of the most disturbing findings from last week’s report by auditor general Karen Hogan was multiple failures at the federal agency responsible for monitoring money laundering, including the financing of terrorist networks.

This Cdn housing crash is far from over. If house px tracked inflation, wages, & shelter subindex of CPI, house px would follow the lower lines, about 2x since 2000. But house prices increased at same rate as household debt instead, a 5x increase.
yes, because all the mainstream textbooks describe the process that way, even though the Bank of England debunked the intermediary explanation many years ago.
Much of the confusion surrounding modern banking operations stems from the fact that people still think of banks as warehouses for money or mere intermediaries between savers and borrowers.
In reality, a commercial bank is first and foremost a profit-seeking business, with one crucial distinction: through lending, it can create its own liabilities, which function as money.
This is why modern banking is much better understood through balance sheets than through the metaphor of transferring pre-existing money from one person to another.
went there 2 years ago for 2.5 days and left an astonishingly large amount of money behind. I couldn't believe people were putting up with that, but I hear tourism is way down now.
