Mortgage holders are going to pay an extra $6,000 a yr as a result of yesterdays interest rate rise. It doesn’t have to be this way. Corporate profits are driving up inflation, taxing them relieves pressure from everyone struggling with the cost of living. Tax corporate profits.

Replying to @AngusTaylorMP
@AngusTaylorMP stop fucking lying. DJs has entered administration due to 10+ yrs of shit management. Your govt allowed it to be sold to South Africans, who then sold it to the same private equity company that bankrupted Dick Smith stores, Anchorage. It has nothing to do with Albo
With the news that David Jones has been placed into voluntary administration, first and foremost our thoughts are with the thousands of workers who face a difficult and uncertain time ahead.
This news will also come as a shock to Australians right across the country.
David Jones is the world's oldest continuously operating department store. Founded in 1838, it is older than the state of Victoria. Older than the Sydney Opera House.
This iconic Australian business has survived two world wars, the Great Depression and countless economic crises.
But after 188 years, it cannot find a way forward in Labor's economy. David Jones is now among the thousands of Australian businesses being pushed to the brink by rising costs, higher interest rates and an economy that is going backwards. It's not alone.
What we’re seeing is an economy that’s crumbling under Labor.
Across the country, businesses large and small are being forced to make tough decisions. Whether to reduce hours. Whether to cut jobs. Whether they can afford to keep going.
Labor promised Australians a Future Made in Australia. Instead, we're seeing an Australia that is closing for business.
More taxes. More regulation. More spending. Higher energy costs. And businesses being suffocated by a government that simply doesn't understand how jobs and prosperity are created.
This is the economy Labor has built.
You cannot have a strong economy without strong businesses. And you cannot protect Australian jobs while making it harder and more expensive to employ Australians.
Australia needs a government that backs enterprise, rewards effort and restores confidence.
That means lower taxes. Less red tape. Cheaper, more reliable energy. And an end to Labor's reckless spending that's driving up inflation.
The Coalition will fight to rebuild an economy where businesses can invest, employ Australians and grow again. An economy that restores our standard of living and protects our way of life.
Australia should be open for business, not closing its doors.

THE BULLSHIT NARRATIVE OF THE RIGHT
The Opposition, the MSM and their chorus of economically illiterate goons.
Greg Jericho:
Greg Jericho has published an excellent piece exposing the increasingly tiresome narrative being peddled by the Coalition, much of the mainstream media and the usual collection of political cheerleaders.
You know the one: LABOR IS SPENDING TOO MUCH! GOVERNMENT SPENDING IS CAUSING INFLATION! JIM CHALMERS MUST RESIGN!
Oh, do give it a rest, petals.
Jericho's article, "The RBA is waging class war, and the Press Gallery are its spin doctors," dismantles much of this convenient little fairy tale.
Here are SIX important points worth understanding:
1. AUSTRALIA IS NOT A BIG-SPENDING COUNTRY.
Compared with other advanced OECD economies, Australia is a relatively low-taxing, low-spending nation. The hysterical narrative that government expenditure is spiralling into some unprecedented fiscal catastrophe doesn't survive an international comparison.
2. GOVERNMENT SPENDING HAS INCREASED FOR GOOD REASONS.
We now have the NDIS. Supporting Australians with disabilities costs money. Apparently, according to some economic geniuses, providing essential services is now evidence of reckless financial management.
3. CUTTING SERVICES IS NOT THE ONLY OPTION.
Jericho calculates that if Australia collected taxation revenue at Canada's level, we would raise approximately $141 BILLION MORE ANNUALLY.
Enough to double spending across several major public services and income-support programs, with money left over.
But heaven forbid we discuss raising more revenue when cutting services for ordinary Australians is so much more fashionable.
4. THE RBA IS MAKING WORKERS PAY THE PRICE.
The Reserve Bank is prepared to tolerate rising unemployment to contain inflation.
Yes, the institution whose responsibilities include maintaining full employment is comfortable with more Australians being unemployed.
Funny how the economic medicine always seems to be prescribed to those least able to afford it.
5. PRIVATE INVESTMENT GETS A FREE PASS.
Jericho highlights the enormous resources being directed towards data-centre construction, contributing to economic capacity pressures.
Yet where are the endless demands to rein THAT spending in?
Apparently, government spending is inflationary, while private investment gets a considerably more sympathetic hearing.
6. THE MAINSTREAM MEDIA HELPS SELL THE STORY.
Rather than rigorously interrogating the economic evidence, much of the Canberra Press Gallery simply reinforces the accepted narrative.
Government spending BAD. Public services TOO EXPENSIVE. Workers must ACCEPT THE PAIN.
And the wealthy? Well, we wouldn't want to inconvenience them, would we?
THE POINT?
Jericho is not writing a love letter to Labor. Indeed, he criticises the Albanese government for its approach to NDIS spending.
What he IS doing is challenging the economic assumptions behind the Coalition's relentless attacks on government expenditure.
And THAT is what makes the article worth reading.
Before swallowing another sermon from Angus Taylor, Tim Wilson or the Murdoch commentariat about Labor's supposedly reckless spending, take a few minutes to read an economist who actually examines the underlying numbers.

This is the same Labour Government letting B52 bombers take off from British soil to bomb Iran - while people here at home pay the price of Trump's illegal war in spiking energy prices.
Warm words about ending the war won't cut it - Burnham must end the UK's participation.

Inflationary pressures are hurting the economy so the RBA raised rates again. I get that. What I don’t understand is why didn’t rates move up when inflation was at 6%. I’m not blaming any govt, I’m just trying to understand the difference in RBA policy.
