Our miners continue to surprise us with the progress they're making on Breaking RSA! With 512-bit and 530-bit RSA just barely behind us, we've now seen 560-bit RSA broken as well! We knew the jump from 530 to 560 bits would be significant, with an estimated 3x increase in difficulty. We thought this could be one of our toughest milestones yet, making this latest achievement even more exciting. Breaking RSA has always been about more than just reaching the next milestone. It's about finding more efficient ways to solve increasingly difficult problems, and seeing just how far those innovations can take us. Hardening Quantum Proof Milestone 4 has been broken, marking a major achievement for Enigma and @BlueQubitIO! This latest solution perfects the methods outlined in IBM's paper from April on breaking peaked circuits, rendering the existing method for obfuscating peaked circuits obsolete. This pokes a massive hole in the current implementation of peaked circuits -- critical information for the world to have before making these circuits any kind of standard. This is exactly the kind of outcome that Enigma was designed for. Hardening Quantum Proof not only gives insight to where the weaknesses are, but also sets the standard for how we should be approaching claims of quantum advantage. While many of the key quantum players rush to make these claims (all of which have been quickly disproven), Enigma and BlueQubit are demonstrating what a responsible and verifiable quantum advantage proof looks like. Breaking RSA has proven to be a great initial challenge for Enigma. It helped us build the framework, prove the concept, and has gotten a LOT of attention along the way. But the fun part is we still have a long way to go! RSA-896 is estimated to take around 30 GPU-years of compute. For comparison, our smaller challenges are designed around a 4-hour window on a single GPU. Miners keep pushing the bounds of what we think is possible with this challenge.
