Holochain retweeted
AI could centralise everything into one giant model owned by a few. Or scatter us into a million apps that don't fit together.
Life found a third way long ago. Here's ours, in 4 minutes: social DNA, membranes, and what we built with @ad4m_layer.
Coasys' collaboration software shares Holochain's central design principle: you get to choose how to use your software in ways that work for you. Your group, your rules.
New week, new MOU: Holo Ventures and @coasys_dao have agreed to support each other's success. First step: Coasys will accept HoloFuel as payment for its services.
Coasys is evolvable collaboration software. You invite local and cloud LLMs into your group to help you do work and — in a brilliant twist — also help you reshape the software itself.
It's no surprise that some of our first Decent Directory members are AI-adjacent. Never before have we had the power to create our own digital tools, but with that comes the risk of being at the mercy of an even more powerful class of tool makers.
Like Holochain, Coasys is about "choice architecture". The users are the best people to choose what works for them.
You're all tool makers now. Choose the tools you can wield well, not the ones that wield you.
Coasys is still in active development. Follow @coasys_dao for updates and visit coasys.org to learn more about their mission.
Holochain was made for this.
Recognising real wealth.
Upholding both the sovereignty of the group and the sovereignty of the individual.
Scaling without marginal costs or extractive intermediaries.
We're happy Kwaxala has chosen us.
Holo Ventures × Kwaxala 🌲
Most investment in nature still treats a forest as an asset only because it can be cut down tomorrow. Kwaxala has flipped that logic right-side up again.
It’s an Indigenous majority-owned regenerative forestry network and fund, established by a First Nation in British Columbia and now working globally. Its Living Forest Shares tie investment returns to the forest staying alive, so capital only thrives if the ecosystem does.
Capital built to care.
We’re collaborating with Kwaxala’s product team to explore how peer-to-peer value and identity tools can serve Indigenous Nations, supporting local self-governance and new ways to coordinate bioregional economies.
Why #Holochain? Kwaxala’s model needs both sovereignty and coordination at scale. Control stays with the Nations and communities who nurture the forest. Each participant holds their own data, identity, and connections, and trust is built peer to peer, not handed to a central platform.
Relation, not domination, built into the protocol.
Unyt adds shared-ledger accounting, so value moves between participants without an intermediary taking a cut. Holo’s distributed infrastructure may follow as the work grows.
Early-stage prototyping. More to come.
Welcome to the Decent Directory, Kwaxala. 👇

It's nice to be bested by the community!
happradar.com is created by a community member, and it aggregates all sorts of data from GitHub and turns it into readable news on the state of the Holochain ecosystem.
At this scale of aggregation, happradar.com gives a broader picture of the vitality of the ecosystem than our own Dev Pulse does. Bravo @EnchantedRobot for doing us one better!
Follow @happradar for weekly digests.
On the heels of that, xitter.cf/lolit_a3/status/211076… is a charming 'nature documentary' take on how a Holochain networks. Enjoyable and easy to understand!
(Note: community-created content may contain inaccuracies or claims that the Holochain team has not vetted or endorsed. Official news always comes from official channels.)
We're excited about this one. It's closer to home -- Lightningrod Labs is founded by @zippy314 , Holochain's co-creator -- and this relationship will take its flagship app Moss ( moss.social ) to the market while standing firmly for what Holochain stands for -- your groups, your data, your infrastructure.
Holo Ventures has signed an MOU with Lightningrod Labs to bring their products to market, starting with the groupware app, Moss. 🧵
Moss is local-first group communication and collaboration that doesn’t need servers. It keeps working where fibre doesn’t reach, when networks are saturated (events) or down (disasters), and wherever privacy is essential, like medical clinics or stealth startups.
It’s open source, built on @holochain, and already in daily use. Together we’ll make it mature enough for more groups to adopt, including enterprises, civic institutions, and regen networks, so they can own their infrastructure without becoming IT experts.
Moss from Lightningrod Labs has gotten AI transcription — but not the creepy kind. Everyone runs a model on their own device, and only transcribes their own audio. No dropouts, perfect signal fidelity, low CPU consumption, sharing by consent only.
When you start with agency and privacy first, some solutions are not options — that forces you to get creative. We're loving the solutions we're seeing.

Local AI, Together! What it looks like when you not only keep AI local, but you do it in collaboration with others:

This feature is only available in Moss 0.16.0-dev.10, and if you're adventurous you can try it out with your teammates: github.com/lightningrodlabs/…
Here's a dirty little secret about Holochain — it's not (always) completely decentralised. There's that pesky problem of the public internet, with billions of IP addresses. You can't search through that space, which means peers need a bootstrap server to find each other.
This doesn't work, as far as Lightningrod Labs is concerned. Their groupware app Moss needs to work even when there is no internet, and it needs to be zero (or low) config. So they've forked Holochain and are building serverless LAN discovery. It's not a full solution, but it's one more step towards the Walkaway Stack.

Progress on Moss's local-first capacities: lightningrodlabs.org/blog/lo…
One by one, the centralisation points are falling. @lightningrodlabs is tackling video calling. First, removing the need for a WebRTC signal server (the five WebRTC nerds reading this will know why it's such a challenge). Next, group scaling.

Been doing a bunch of work on Presence (Moss' video chat tool). Here's a blog post about the libraries we've pulled out that anyone in the p2p space can use: lightningrodlabs.org/blog/we…
It's true; we're stubborn and we believe in the transformative power of agency. It's why why we keep slogging away building Holochain.
Many of you have questions after the 30 July livestream introducing Cameron as the ED of Holo Ventures. Some were concerned about the integrity of Holochain's vision; others wanted to know whether he had the chops to deliver. In this interview, Sam and Anita sit down with Cameron to unpack his credentials, his motive for joining the team, and the Holochain Foundation's 'golden share'.

(Note on the quote text 👇🏽 It was hard to pick just one quote that we liked the most. There's a lot of good stuff in this short read.)
Very excited to see what @WeAreFlowsta have built in a year. Not just tools (which, by the way, are highly usable -- they've put a lot of work into UX) but a business around them.
Replying to @WeAreFlowsta
@WeAreFlowsta is joining the Holo Ventures Decent Directory and will be accepting HoloFuel for its pro features once the HOT→HoloFuel migration begins!
There's a ton of justified hand-wringing about dwindling choice in the face of increasingly powerful companies and centralised tech. Flowsta is actually doing something about it. They make tools for you to take back your power — local-first AI that just works, self-sovereign sign-in, and more. Flowsta eliminates the gatekeepers, and, building on Holochain infrastructure, offers users true peer-to-peer connection.
When you learn about flowsta.com it's clear they resonate with our mission. It's time to take back ownership of our digital lives, and Flowsta and Your Own AI are two meaningful steps.
Keep your ears open for more Decent Directory announcements!
Thoroughly agree 😉
Holochain has potential because
1. Demand for data ownership: More people and businesses may want control over their information rather than giving it to large technology companies.
2. Lower infrastructure costs: Holochain's architecture could reduce some costs associated with central servers and blockchain consensus.
3. Scalability: Holochain doesn't require every participant to process every transaction. This could help applications grow efficiently.
4. Business adoption: Companies could use Holochain for supply chains, collaboration, identity systems and community platforms.
Find out what Moss has been growing lately! It has a number of new tools, some official and some community contributed, some extremely useful and others simply fun 🙂
A software framework may claim to be innovative, but if it hasn't got any apps, does it matter? Moss is being used daily by groups to plan and execute their work, and apparently play chess when they've got the time.

Just posted a long overdue update about what's been going on in Lightningrod Labs: lightningrodlabs.org/blog/ca…
If you're new to Moss, it's local-first, open-source groupware that doesn't use a server. That means that your group can still do its work off-grid, on an airplane, or in the midst of a natural disaster. No public internet required.
Download it and try it with your friends at moss.social
We're grateful to all of you for being as stubborn as us, for putting your trust in us as we build for a world without capturable centres. Read Holo Ventures' paper for a frank facing of our challenges, our accomplishments, and why we believe the world needs this now more than ever.
Holo Ventures just published a new paper. In the nine years since we published the original Green Paper, we can look back and say three things:
1. Our diagnosis of where the world was heading was spot-on.
2. We underestimated how long it would take to build a solution.
3. The world needs capture-resistant infrastructure more than ever.
We're saying this now because one thing has changed: the infrastructure is ready.
It's been a long journey, but we've passed the hardest milestones and we're ready to help you rebuild the world different. Come build with us.

The pragmatic case for decentralisation is more salient now than it was in 2017 -- it's becoming clearer by the day that centralisation is a strategic vulnerability for communities, institutions, and businesses. We've got the tools, along with hard-won wisdom about building for decentralisation, and are ready to help people build solutions.
First entry in our "vibe code your own little hApp" challenge. Very impressive; keep them coming!
Here is a video of the @Holochain Blackjack app so you can get an idea of the speed. Not bad for day 1. $HOT #Holochain #HappSprint
(reminder: to get started, try @soushi888 's github.com/Soushi888/holocha… with your favourite agentic coding harness -- they're looking for feedback on how it's working for you!)
xitter.cf/soushi888/status/20957…
@soushi888 has been working hard to create and test an agent skill for building hApps. If you're a vibe coder or developer, we're extending @soushi888 's request to you: try it, push it, break it so it can reach v1.0 with a high standard of quality.
This skill is meant to take you from empty folder to tested app and packaged installer ready for distribution. The repo currently targets Holochain 0.7.0. As we mentioned last week, it puts the power to create a hApp in the hands of more people. xitter.cf/Holochain/status/20962…
