The ethics of #AI need to leverage #web3 technology. I the users of #AI are denied or avoid ownership, governance, and transparency over the data, models, alignment, and objectives of the AI they leverage it is a path to Black Mirror realities buff.ly/3pOeFnW (video)

Due to the overwhelming response to my recent post, I am launching a multi-part deep dive into the hidden architecture of Canada’s economy. If you have ever wondered why your phone bill is so high, why grocery prices feel insulated from global realities, or how a handful of corporate giants dominate our most essential sectors, this series is for you. Over the coming days, we are breaking down the protected, concentrated, and heavily regulated industries that form the backbone of Canadian commerce. We’ll examine how these systems were built, who they were designed to safeguard, and what they mean for consumers, workers, and taxpayers today. Here is what we’ll be covering: Part 1: The Kitchen Table — Dairy, Chicken & Pork We’ll unpack the mechanics of Canada’s supply management system. How do production quotas, import tariffs, and marketing boards shield domestic farmers from global volatility, and what is the trade-off at the checkout line? Part 2: Heavy Metal — Steel & Aluminum A look at how global trade politics, carbon border adjustments, and domestic industrial strategy intersect to safeguard the critical materials that build our infrastructure and manufacturing base. Part 3: The Boardroom Cartels — Banking & Telecom Why does Canada rely on the "Big Banking" and "Big Telecom" models? We’ll analyze how strict foreign ownership limits and high regulatory barriers trade market competition for financial stability and domestic control. Part 4: Sovereign Control — Defense & Aviation Lastly, we’ll look at the sky and the frontline. From airline cabotage restrictions to military procurement strategies, we’ll evaluate how national security and economic sovereignty dictate who gets to fly and who gets to supply our armed forces. Whether you view these frameworks as vital shields for national self-reliance or costly barriers to consumer choice, understanding how they were set up is essential to understanding Canada’s economic future.

As a Canadian founder who chose to build in Toronto, there are things every Canadian founder should know: - Canada is a great place to live and work - The Toronto tech scene can be🔥 That being said: - It can feel like an insider's club - The market here is tiny —you will end up selling to US customers anyways - You are exponentially better off if you raise from US investors - Many Canadian investors will take weeks to make a decision. Some US investors only need a few hours - Canadian investors look for external signals, like having a Tier 1 US lead, before they will commit. - Procurement processes here are ridiculous. You'll spend 12 months only for management to turnover at the finish line, then be back where you started. Enterprises here aren't incentivized to pursue innovation. - Canada is risk averse. I don't know if it's our culture or what. This affects how enterprises adopt new technologies. - The government needs to understand that innovation requires risk. Their current version is to just double down on Series C/D companies at $100M+ ARR. A lot of young founders ask me for advice. I usually tell them if they want to win, they should go to SF and build/grow there. I wish it wasn't the case, because Canada is a great place to live, but it's just exponentially easier in the US.
this should be a five alarm fire for policymakers in canada 517 american companies started by canadians. $414 billion raised. almost 9 in 10 of them went to school in canada incredibly, 216 of these founders went to waterloo…. and half of these companies were started in the last 2 years!

Talked to a founder (not in Waterloo) who mentioned they are looking at a SAFE for early investment to a person at a support org in Canada. Their response was don't do that, go spend the next 6 months or so at pitch competitions and get that non-dilutive money instead. That is a waste of time for a founder with their first customers already paying. Waste of time for most/many. Stay out of the LARPing of startups. Go F'n build and ideally build off revenue. If you can get some early investors with a reasonable SAFE. Take it. Pitch comps can be great but your time is the most expensive thing you have. Careful how you use it. This founder has friends that have gone to YC and other US based programs as well. They knew that wasn't good advice. Sigh.

This is how an economy actually works
Personne n'a planifié.

To any young kid reading this… I’ve doubted myself in every league I’ve ever played in. Ryman Prem. Conference South. League Two. League One. Championship… And even right before my first Premier League start last night. That’s not weakness. That’s being human. That’s being alive. When I was growing up, I thought Premier League players were superhuman. Like they never felt doubt. Like they never felt nerves. The truth is…. it’s often the opposite. Social media won’t tell you that sometimes you step out there with no confidence. That’s normal. That’s ok! You now have to then step out there with courage. Confidence feels good. Courage doesn’t. But you do it anyway. Show courage enough times…. You build confidence. Here’s the mindset that’s carried me for 31 years. When it goes well: I worked for it. I earned it. Well done. Watch it back. Get better. When it doesn’t: I know I prepared the best I could. It didn’t go exactly to plan. That’s football. But Well done. Watch it back. Get better. That simple recipe gave me a special moment last night. Leading the team out. Playing alongside a group that fights for every ball. Celebrates tackles. Gives everything for the city of Sunderland. And sharing it with supporters who never gave up, even after four tough seasons in League One. So if you’re a young player feeling doubt… Low confidence… Or like you don’t believe in yourself… You’re not alone. Every player feels it. Confidence isn’t something you’re given. It’s something you build. Bit by bit. Day by day. With courage. With work. With learning. Anything worth building takes time. But that’s what makes it so worthwhile! Thank you @SunderlandAFC ❤️🤍
