Congratulations to Prof @WMutunga Mutunga, CJ, on being honoured as a national hero on 20 October 2026!
A jurist, scholar and champion of radical legal education, whose words have shaped how we think about justice and our shared identity.
We're proud to celebrate a hero whose ideas live on the page, from Many Tongues, One Nation to his inaugural lecture.

Congratulations Dr. Bosire!
It was an honour to publish this important and impactful work.
Not many scholarly projects smoothly translate into living regional policy/ governance standards. In 2024, I had the privilege of editing a book titled "Judicial financial independence in Africa" (published by Kabarak University Press @KABUPressKE, supported by Konrad Adenauer Stiftung Rule of Law Programme for Sub-Saharan Africa @KAS_LawAfrica) The book, which examined judiciary financing in 11 countries in Africa, found useful convergence with ongoing reflections regarding judicial financial independence in the African region under the Southern and East African Chief Justices Forum @SeacjForum. This laid the ground for a collaboration between SEACJF, KAS, and the African Judges and Jurists Forum (AJJF) @AfricanJurists that led to the development of Principles and Guidelines of Judicial Financial Independence in Africa (now known as the Gaborone Principles and Guidelines on Judicial Financial Independence in Africa). The principles were adopted by SEACJF member states in Gaborone and formally launched in the just concluded AJJF summit in Zanzibar (on 5 October 2026).
I am grateful to KAS Rule of Law Programme for Sub-Saharan Africa, AJJF and SEACJF for the chance to provide technical leadership on the development of the principles. May the principles help build a stronger culture of judicial financial management across the region; one that protects independence and strengthens the delivery of justice.
