In a historic victory for horses, the New York City Council has voted to end horse-drawn carriage operations, paving the way for nearly 200 horses to leave the dangers of the city’s congested streets. “But animals are not inert icons; they are living, breathing individuals with needs, instincts and intentions all their own,” says @humaneworldkb, president and CEO of @humaneworldorg. After years of advocating for an end to the carriage industry, Humane World for Animals is among the organizations offering placement options for the horses. The legislation also prohibits their sale for slaughter and now awaits action by the mayor. Read more: humaneworld.org/en/news/new-… #newyorkcity #horse #Romanchlaw

It’s the end of an inhumane era. Today, the New York City Council voted to end horse-drawn carriage operations. Horses are highly sensitive animals with powerful flight instincts; they cannot exist happily or safely alongside the traffic, noise and congestion of New York City streets. The passage of Intro 943 marks a historic milestone for animals. humaneworld.org/en/blog/brea… #NewYorkCity #CarriageHorses #AnimalWelfare

One of the things that gives me hope is seeing communities come together to solve challenges with compassion. In India, that approach is creating better outcomes for street dogs and the people who live alongside them. A powerful story: humaneworld.org/en/blog/comm…🐕❤️

A tragic carriage-horse accident this summer reignited a long-overdue conversation in NYC. Our new report examines persistent welfare and oversight concerns in the carriage horse industry and why regulations alone aren't solving the problem. Fur is on its way out. Today, international outerwear brand Woolrich Europe announced it is going fur-free. We joined the Fur Free Alliance to achieve exactly these kinds of fur-free commitments, and we’re proud to see yet another beacon of fashion shift away from fur cruelty. #FurFree #Fashion humaneworld.org/en/blog/wool…

Colorado’s Amendment 83 would enshrine a “right to hunt” in the state constitution that could undermine protections for wild animals for years to come. Voters in the state can still prevent this. Vote NO on Amendment 83. humaneworld.org/en/blog/colo…

Another win against cage cruelty: A federal judge just dismissed the Trump administration's challenge to Michigan's cage-free egg law. The court rejected the claim that better egg standards are responsible for higher prices. The momentum toward more humane treatment of animals is undeniable. humaneworld.org/en/blog/judg…

Five years ago, during a severe snowstorm in San Antonio, Texas, a tiger cub was found with a dog harness around her neck. It was clear that there was no natural reason for her to be there. Elsa is just one of countless victims of the wild animal pet trade, a highly lucrative and operation that robs animals all over the world of their ability to express their natural behaviors and instincts, a life in their natural environment and often their lives. humaneworld.org/en/blog/disc…

This brings tears to my eyes. Years ago, people said a ban on dog meat farming in South Korea was impossible. Now we are completing our final large-scale dog meat farm rescue before the ban on dog meat farming takes full effect in early 2027. As we continue working to end the dog and cat meat trade across Asia, it is knowing that South Korea’s ban is coming into full effect in 2027 and that these dogs are safe and on their way to loving homes that gives us momentum to keep working towards a more compassionate world for all animals. Helping farmed animals does not have to be overwhelming. It’s true that billions of these animals are suffering right now. But it’s also true that everyone can, through everyday choices, make a difference. Learn more: humaneworld.org/en/blog/five… #FarmAnimalWelfare #PlantBasedFood

A historic moment for animals and public health: Chile is now the first country in South America to eliminate dog-transmitted rabies. This achievement reflects decades of collaboration and commitment. Now, the work continues to ensure no community is excluded from the network of care. humaneworld.org/en/blog/chil…

President Trump’s new executive order, “Reinvigorating America’s Hunting Heritage,” is built on a dangerous myth: that more hunting and more killing equals better conservation. Here is the reality: Expanding the use of toxic lead ammunition puts wildlife and people at risk. Promoting the killing of wild carnivores like wolves, bears, and mountain lions ignores science and threatens healthy ecosystems. And the claim that increased hunting will strengthen local economies overlooks a simple fact: wildlife watching generates far more participation and spending than hunting. Big win for animals! The FDA announced that it plans to update its drug regulations by removing references to animal testing. This will help make it clear that companies don’t have to submit data from animal tests to have their drugs approved. humaneworld.org/en/blog/win-…

We fought for this, and we won: At the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, a simple change in regulatory language will eventually have implications for millions of animals. You can urge the FDA to implement the change as quickly as possible to prevent more animals from suffering. Learn more: humaneworld.org/en/blog/win-…
